2010...I bid you farewell!

It's the last day of year 2010 and here I am, inking my last post of the year. It was just a blink of an eye that now we are at the end of another year. It was just yesterday that I was in Melaka celebrating the new year at Geographers. There will be parties, drinks and fireworks to mark another new year.

A flashback of my year...
I drafted a list of new year resolutions for this year and off to hard work and perseverance to make the resolution a success.

January,
I was still on my unofficial holiday, spending days sending resumes, waiting for phone calls and preparing for interviews and I was giving up hope in getting any jobs. It was a long wait, day in and day out. Little did I know the feeling of anxiety in waiting for a proper job to come. During these times of restless waits, I was able to have some fun - Melaka for New Year party, Pulau Payar for dives, Seremban for a meetup and Pulau Ketam for a night.

February,
I moved to Mont Kiara with a friend. I successfully accepted a 3 months internship with a research company in the Aerospace & Defense department. It was a 9am-6pm office job. I wasn't used to the repetitive routine but it was a good start. I learnt a bunch though I was there for only a week. I resigned. I moved out. I gained many friends. I lost a great friend. It was a heartbreak. I left to an island for interview that weekend and spent my Chinese New Year eve on the bus, missed my reunion dinner with family in Melaka but I thanked my family and friends for giving their support through this rough time.

March,
I left the big city with a heavy heart to an island called Redang. Many asked why the sudden change? I took the leap in the hope of leaving the heartache behind. I care not the low pay, the culture differences. It took me a while to get used to the new life I had on the island, but as time passed, I was glad I choose the path I was in - the sun, the sea and the sand.

April,
I was given the opportunity to explore more into scuba diving. I had a great time making my guests happy during their stay on the island. I was then given a chance to make a video underwater. I worked almost 2 shifts; diving and making sales everyday. I came up with the video and we started selling to our hotel guests. I decided to pursue my diving license and after 5 dives, I gained my PADI Advance Open Water Diver license. Though there were no stress and worries through the 2 months, things started to change. It was great news, at first, that I was promoted but after declining the promotion, I was in a difficult position that forced me to resign. So I did. I resigned. Before I left the island, I gained my PADI Digital Underwater Photographer license. It was my graduation ceremony in Miri. I took a 5-day break in Miri; spent my time diving in the Miri waters, dinner with the JCLAs, and most importantly, I made my parents proud!

May,
I came back to the big city again; no more sun, sea and sand. I was back to reality. I signed a 3 months contract with a production company as a Production Manager. I was given 2 jobs; a commercial and a science program called 'Clever! Edisi Malaysia'. I traveled from Cheras to Kelana Jaya by train everyday - tiring but that's life in the city. I signed up for gym with Celebrity Fitness and went for yoga, body combat and dance classes.

June,
It was a hectic month preparing for the science program; calling schools, casting kids and adults alike, getting permissions and sponsorships. There were ups and downs but I learnt so much when working in this project. I played with science, experiments and even appeared on the show! It was a long week of shoot and late nights but all went superbly well.

July,
My last month of contract. I had a haircut and it was a very short cut...but I love it! I took 2 days leave through the weekend for a trip to Perhentian Island for dives with my fellow colleagues. Though I only had 4 dives but it was worth every cent I spent. Things were getting better; career and personal.

August,
I renewed my contract for another 4 months, this time to work on a feature film! My first feature film project! Mum and Dad came for a visit. I had my kueh chap and kolo mee from Kuching and we spent time in Ipoh and Penang during the weekend. It was an impromptu decision to spend the weekend in Pangkor Island - no dives for me but a relaxing holiday it was!

September,
It was quite a boring month as it was just pre-production of the feature film with many versions of scripts, breakdowns and lots of location scouting. I love recce'ing. I explore many places and come across many interesting locations and meeting people. I participated in the International Cleanup Day in Pulau Payar. It was a great time cleaning the sea and yes, there were so much so clean.

October,
Things started to get more and more intense as shoot was in a month time. I started to see changes in the people around me. There were arguments, disagreements but that happens. I started seeing myself being taken advantage of and I decided to stand up for myself and defended my thoughts. As time passes, things started to get ugly. The month ended with a huge argument in the office and a bad start on the shoot. I had a breakdown on the last day of October and it was something that I do not wish to happen again.

November,
A long month of shoot. So much stress, so much problems, so much lies, so much! People just can't work professionally. It was rain and shine. It was sweats and swears. Everyone put in efforts and pulled through the long month. I gained friends but I lost trusts.

December,
The last 2 days of shoot was hell. We were cursed at, showed middle-finger at, mocked at, ran over at. It was an eye opener to see 'Malaysia Truly Asia'. But, all the hard work paid off and the crash happened and it was a wrap. The shoot ended. My contract ended. Though I had one hell of a time working on this feature film, I took it as a lesson well learnt and it made my portfolio a better one. I was officially unemployed again. I spent my first week of unemployment in bed with fever, cough and flu. It was later that I volunteered to edit an event video for an NGO. I went back to church. I spent my birthday in Sunway Lagoon with my brother Alex and sister-in-law Choulyee and did another leap - Bungee Jump! Christmas was here in KL. New Year too.

2010. So much has happened - job hopping, making new friends, loosing old friends, accomplished more dives, worked in different genre of projects, missing home, obtained insanity. So much gained through the years; good and bad alike.

It was not exactly a great year to remember. Forgive and forget. 2010...I bid you farewell.

Lastly, I thanked my family for understanding and supporting my many decisions throughout this year and for being there for me when I needed you the most. I thanked my friends; far and near for the shoulder to cry on, the ear to listen to, the smile to share the joy and happiness. I thanked the strangers I met along the way for being a help. I thanked those who had done me wrong for teaching me lessons that I can only learn through meeting people like them. I thanked God for being there to guide me through times of greatness and troubles.

Upcoming Movies 2011

I should be doing audio balancing for my video edits at this moment because I decided to stay up the whole night to finish it before the sun comes out...but it seems to me that I'm a little hyperactive after a packet of Teh-C-Peng, a piece Ka-Neng-Kueh and a piece of 'Huat-Kueh'.

Anyway...
This is so that I remember the list of movies that I want to watch in the big screen in 2011!

1. Tekken
2. Sinbad: The Fifth Voyage
3. Season of the Witch
4. The Green Hornet
5. Mars Needs Moms!
6. Diary of a Wimpy Kid 2: Roadrick Rules
7. Cave of Forgotten Dreams
8. Soul Surfer
9. Thor
10. Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides
11. Kung Fu Panda 2
12. X-Men: First Class
13. Green Lantern
14. Transformers: Dark of the Moon
15. Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part II
16. Captain America: The First Avenger
17. The Smurfs
18. Final Destination 5
19. Footloose
20. The Three Musketeers
21. Puss in Boots
22. Happy Feet 2
23. Mission Impossible: Ghost Protocol
24. Alvin and the Chipmunks
25. A Very Harold & Kumar Christmas

Hmm...this is a very long list.

RM10 x 25 = RM250 (the minimal amount needed to spend to watch all these 25 movies in my list)

Muahahahahahaha....can't wait!

Malaysia Wins AFF Suzuki Cup

I did not watch any of these football matches but looking at the Facebook posts from friends and friends' friends, it must be a big match and Malaysia won! It did not fascinate me until I head my brother said, 'Friday public holiday!' And to me, whether or not its working days, weekends, public holidays, it doesn't make any difference. So I went online and look out for the news and read this:

News taken from NewsStraitsTimes

PM declares Friday a public holiday

KUALA LUMPUR: Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak has declared Friday, December 31 2010, a public holiday to commemorate Malaysia's victory in the 2010 AFF Suzuki Cup tonight.

Malaysia won 4-2 on aggregate after winning 3-0 at home and losing 2-1 to Indonesia in the second leg on Wednesday night at Bung Karno stadium in Jakarta.

The public holiday announcement was made via national news agency Bernama.

***See how interesting Malaysia is***

This means, LET'S WIN MORE COMPETITIONS AND WE GET MORE PUBLIC HOLIDAYS!!!

The day I became a kid again...

A week has passed and I still remember the day my brother Alex and my sister-in-law Choulyee brought me to Sunway Lagoon for my birthday. It's been a rare occasion to celebrate my birthday away from home. It was actually my idea to celebrate it in Sunway Lagoon because my ultimate birthday present was the Bungee Jump!

Left home early that morning because we were afraid that we might end up in a long queue just to get the tickets, and we were right. There were so many people there even before 10am and thanks to most people who are indecisive in buying their tickets, we had to wait at least 5 - 10 minutes for each round. Alex bought us the 'All Parks' ticket and this time, it's a wrist watch look-a-like tag (no more water proof paper tag anymore). It was a quick breakfast at McDonalds Sunway Pyramid before the whole day in the theme park.

After breakfast, we went back to the park and had a change of clothes before the rides. *funny incident happened* Alex went for a change and little did he realized that his pants dropped on the toilet floor, so he was pant-less after the wet rides! *roll on the floor laughing*

Anyways, it was photo-less throughout the rides because no bags are allowed at any rides. So, we went to relief our childhood memories - our first roller coaster ride when we were still little kids! Then we go about laughing at how our little brother Aaron's green face after the ride! *laughs* We were already all wet after the 2nd ride. Later it was off to Scream Park - Yes! Scream Park...consists of 4 different genre of haunted house!!! I went in, had a good fright but it was amazing, especially the 3D house! *in awe*

We had a good time, lining up for rides and later before lunch, Alex told me to go for my Bungee (just in case if later during the day, the bungee is out of operations). So we walked through the suspension bridge only to realize that they are close for lunch! So we walked down to the Extreme Park, had a FREE ATV ride and later I solo-solo climbed up the bridge for my jump!

It was a very short jump but it was AWESOME!

The afternoon was filled with free stuffs! Free 20 pallets of Paintball, Free Bungee Trampolin, Free Wall Climb...Free Shower!!! We went to the Wildlife Park to see all the weird creatures and was in time for bird feeding at the Bird Park! We had a personal pizza just to fill the stomach before a walk around the Wet Park with Choulyee...and I was the only one all WET!

It was about to rain that Alex told us to get change and leave for dinner...and so we did. The moment we got into the car and left, it rained! Phew! We drove to Jalan Peel for SATAY!!! *yum yum yum*

It was a great day. I really became a kid once again!
A million thanks to Alex and Choulyee for the whole birthday trip to Sunway Lagoon! It was a blast! We all became a kid...not just me! *smiles*

Adventure in KL - Day 3: Christmas Eve

Date: 24th December 2010
It's Christmas Eve and this year, since I'm not going back home, I decided to go out and have a good time on my own. The morning started with a good breakfast at Jalan Alor; Curry Chicken Noodle and Teh C Peng...*slurps* It was nice! Took me close to an hour just to finish my breakfast, but it was satisfying.

...my bowl of Curry Chicken Noodle...

It wasn't a bright and sunny morning, so I took a walk from Bukit Bintang to KLCC. It's been a long while since I had a walk there. Took the KLCC park to the shopping centre to take photos of the place. Lucky me, I brought my camera!

It's all about white Christmas here in KLCC. The Christmas tree is white and purple, seemed like they are filled with snowflakes. Made me feel more Christmas'ies at least. Sigh~ Made me missed home even more. I actually walked the whole KLCC every floor, from left to right in 30 minutes while waiting for movie at 11.20am.

...Gulliver's Travels...

It was rather disappointing though. Quite a slow story flow and the graphics ain't nice at all! Sigh! Now I wished I was watching 'Fair Game' instead...

Walked back to Bukit Bintang area but thanks to the pain on my right shoulder, I decided to go back home. So, I'm now back home on Christmas Eve, doing nothing other than surfing the net, writing my blog, playing Cafe World and watching Christmas movie on TV.

Adventure in KL - Day 2

The Day 2 adventure started with a morning in the gym after 2 months. This time I had to figure out a way to get myself to the gym with public transportation and so I did! I arrived at Sunway Pyramid and had a good McDonalds breakfast before staying in the gym for 2 hours in Ritzmo Zum class and my routine...*relieve* After a good hot shower, I went around window shopping but at the end of the day, I end up with nothing!

I went online and search for movies to watch. There was this looooooooooong queue in TGV Sunway Pyramid so I decided to leave Pyramid and go down town to catch a movie.

The adventure continued when I boarded a Metrobus, not knowing where the stops are and guess what - it was a free ride! The bus conductor walked passed me couple of times, taking money from the guy sitting next to me but didn't see me sitting at the window...hmm...so it was a free ride after all.

...first boarded the Star LRT from Pandan Indah to Masjid Jamek, then interchange to Putra LRT to Kelana Jaya, then boarded rapidkl bus to Sunway Pyramid, then No.10 Metrobus to Puduraya, then the monorail to Bukit Bintang...

I managed to reach Pavilion by 3.30pm and bought myself ticket to watch RAPUNZEL at 4pm. Got a combo popcorn and drinks and had a good laugh throughout the movie. It was another great cartoon from Disney! *claps*

Went to Wendy's next to Choulyee's office and had fries while waiting for her to leave office. My leg was aching real bad after the dance class that morning but it was a day of 'Public Transportation' adventure!

Next adventure begins...soon!

Happy Birthday to Me!

The greatest birthday present I got!

...read the side of the certificate carefully...
it says CERTIFICATE OF INSANITY

*LAUGHS*
I finally decided to take a leap of faith, er...not exactly a leap of faith lah, but anyway, a leap from 21 metres up in the World's Longest Pedestrian Suspension Bridge @ Sunway Lagoon. BUNGEE JUMP!!! *hurray*

My dear brother, Alex was kind to pay for the entrance fee to Sunway Lagoon and also for the Bungee Jump as well and I shall say it in pride...'I accomplish it without a sweat!' It was quite a long wait to finally get to jump; from waiting at the entrance to the bridge, to waiting for the jump to be opened after lunch, but it was worth the waits!

...that's me!...

This is the only Bungee Jump in Malaysia and yes! after this try, I want more! More! MORE! *evil laughter* Did I mention; I had my head dipped into the dirty pool too...hmm...not a good idea but heck, it was a one jump in a life time here anyway.

To let you see how high the jump was.
...not exactly that high lah~...

Waiting to get the video from my brother!
...and...

HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO ME,
HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO ME,
HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO INSANE KAREN!
HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO ME!

Sway...Totally!

Finally I'm back at the gym! ...after 2 months of 'no-time-for-gym'... This time, my goal is to attend dance classes when the time permits. Wasn't sure whether how much I'll fit in the classes but after one day, it was F.U.N.!!! Attended Ritzmo Zum on a Thursday morning and it was a full 1 hour dance in different genre; salsa, hip hop, 3-step, tango, and many more. The second class today was Dance Mix and interestingly today, I learnt 3-step dance! swaying...totally! Never swayed so much in my entire life. But, it was AWESOME!

More dance classes to go!

Christmas Decorations in Town

Not going back home for Christmas doesn't mean no Christmas for me. I took on a trip to hunt for Christmas decorations in town; especially in shopping centers. One thing that all these shopping centers should do is to have an inter-shopping center Christmas decorations competition every year. I wonder how much these shopping center spends to put up beautiful decorations every festive season.

...Berjaya Times Square...

...Fahrenheit 88...

...Pavilion Kuala Lumpur...

...Sunway Pyramid...

and not forgetting
*drums roll*
...ME in the gold xmas ball...

My Pressies!

It's the end of the year and it's the time I reward myself with some goodies; celebrating both my birthday and Christmas all in one *smiles* Also, not forgetting the birthday of my dear BlackBerry - 1 year old this year! Spent everything under the budget, which is good... Since I am not going home this year for my birthday and Christmas, it's decent to spend something for me, myself and I.

~Happy Birthday BlackBerry!~
...a new, black and hard casing for you...

~Happy Birthday to me~
...a be-early Tropicana Life wallet for me...
(actually been wanting to get one for 3 years now)

~I wish myself Merry Christmas~
...when I am not home for Christmas, I tend to buy myself a small gift to remind me how many times I was away. my first gift was a small xmas tree that sings, which is now back home. this year, I got myself a snowman snowglobe...

Cheers!

Adventure in KL - Day 1

Date: 14th December 2010
Finally I decided to give myself a good break by going out to KL for some adventure. Early that morning, I followed my sister-in-law to work. Had roti boom and milo ais for starters before I went to ATM to clear some deposits. That was where I came across the International Brass Band Preliminary Round competition just outside Pavillion KL. It was interesting to watch the percussion battling out to get a place in the semi-finals. There were teams from Malaysia, Indonesia, Thailand.

...Malaysia vs Indonesia...

Good thing the weather was great. I walked around without a sweat. It wasn't a good idea to bring my laptop with me because it gets heavier after a long walk. So I went down the streets, taking photographs here and there before I finally walked over to Berjaya Times Square to get myself a movie ticket, sent my Nikon D40 for sensor cleaning and enjoyed the Christmas decorations.

...it is always nice to walk when there's not much people in the streets...

Since I had nothing better to do, I went around the shops asking how much will I get if I trade-in my Nikon D40 and sadly...it worth only RM500 or less! *sigh* So, forget it! I am not selling my Nikon D40 but getting a Canon G12 soon....... Spent RM60 for sensor cleaning; kindda expensive but now, my camera is CLEAN! ...after 3 years~

It was time for a movie: Harry Potter and the Deathly Hollows Part 1

It was a very long movie...sat in the cinema for about 3 hours; thanks to GSC for starting the movie 20 minutes late! And it was freezing in there! Anyway, the show was great - comparing to the previous sequels where it is very predictable...this one isn't *applause* can't wait for Part 2 to be out in the cinema!

After the movie, I went around Times Square, Fahrenheit 88 and Pavillion for some window shopping and a Subway sandwich for late lunch. It was about 6.30pm that I finally met up with my sister-in-law to get a ride back home.

Bodyaching today...
A lesson learn: No more laptop while going for any other adventure next time!

Relaxation? ...or Boredom?

At this moment, I wished I am sitting down on the white sandy beach, looking up at the clear blue skies while drinking a warm beer. But, where am I now? It's 12.02am and I'm at home, within the four walls and am starting to grow cobwebs. It's only a week since my stressful job ended and I'm already feeling so restless; maybe because I'm so used to work, especially the long hours and lack of sleep.

It's time to relax and enjoy life...most people would say. Yes! I'm trying to take my time to relax and to enjoy life but it's another 1 month before my official holiday starts! What am I supposed to do with this extra 1 month here in KL?! I know what I can do if I'm back home in Kuching...like decorating the house for Christmas! But I'm stuck here, with no transportation to go around, no good food for my empty stomach, no friends to lepak as everyone is working...

List of things to do during the time of boredom:
1. Window shopping
2. Cinema for a good movie
3. Americano while surfing the net in Starbucks
4. Photo hunt
5. Walk till ends meet

Hmm...I'll be a little bit more productive at home! *seriously*
