St. Peter's Church Holiday Camp (Day 1)

Date: 28th November 2007
Venue: St. Peter's Church

The first day of camp. Excited, blur, scared... The camp were organized by the St. Peter's Sunday School for children aged 7 to 12 years old.

I woke up at 6am and got ready and by 7am, I drove to pick Angeline up at Batu Kawa and later to Tiffany's house at Hui Sing. We decided to have breakfast then to church. As soon as we arrived, there were so many children already registered and had their things moved into the rooms but there were no helpers seen around other than Valentine, the organizer. hmm...we were shocked! Later then we met with three other helpers, Elizabeth, Melissa and Kelly and later at night, there were a few others; Moses, Joshua, Kelvin and Tiffany Jr.

We were then asked to help with the registration and also the designation of rooms for the children - 2 rooms for girls and a room for boys. There were anxious parents around the Parish Center, helping their children unpacking their things. It was 10am where the parish priest, Fr. Vincent came in for the opening prayer and a speech.

There were refreshments for the children and it was the first Action Song slot for me. Tiffany and I thought 'Hari Ini' and 'I'm Alive, Alert, Awake' and to our surprise, the children enjoyed the songs...We separated the children into seven groups namely Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday, Friday, Saturday and Sunday and a team leader appointed for each team. And soon, first group activity started...

The first day program was already arranged and apparently things got off the program when Angeline, Tiffany and I had to run the camp. So we did, and things were alright and the children listen to us, though...

Game time was great! But...not so for me because I had to play guitar for an hour...and my fingers were hurting... we played Musical Chair and A, E, I, O, U and the children loved it!

Shower time was a disaster! We didn't have any idea who is available to help! We had to run up and down to make sure everything is in order. Then it was dinner time... After dinner, the children went to church for rosary recitation and for mass. It was the only time where we were able to take five and so we did, by leaving the camp site and went home for a hot shower... We went back to the camp just before bedtime and got everyone to bed and lights off!

It was already 11.30pm, where we went out to Open Air and tapau food for supper. We had a short meeting for the next day's program. Tiff, Angel and I had to sleep in the girls' room and it was a very long night for me...waking up every 5 minutes until 6am *no sleep at all!!
