Of Nasi Lemak...

Nasi Lemak is something I sometimes crave for. Where in the world do you find nasi lemak as delicious as the ones in Malaysia. But, for once, I felt that the pack of nasi lemak I bought was not up to the taste...well, it is not because of the taste in general, but because of the people selling them.

1Malaysia?
This part of the story, I think not...

For once I felt discriminated buying a pack of nasi lemak...why? The scenario was...
I stood in front of the stall just outside my house to buy a pack of nasi lemak for dinner. In front of me was a Malay lady who bought two packs of nasi lemak with telur goreng and a piece of ayam goreng. In total, it costed her RM8 for 2 packs. So it was my turn in line. Instead of having nasi lemak, I asked for nasi putih, ayam goreng and telur goreng with no kuah. At first the lady charged me for RM3.50. I looked at her and ordered a Bandung Ice bungkus. For a moment, she stared at me, her eyes looked up and down at me. She then called for the guy who made the drinks and back at me before saying...RM3.50...RM4.50...RM6.00!

O.O!

RM6.00 for that pack of rice and bandung ice! I showed her a WTF look but it didn't seemed to bother her. I didn't want to say much, so I paid.

While waiting for the Bandung ice, an Indian lady was packing the exact same pack of Nasi Lemak as the Malay lady had; with telur goreng and ayam goreng. And guess how much hers costed??? RM5.00!

Hmm...amazingly how different the price was. I was very annoyed and disgusted by that scenario. I took my Bandung ice and went off without even saying 'Thank You'. I wonder how they can openly do such a thing. I swore that I'll never go there to buy anything from them ever again!

Of Nasi Lemak discrimination...

Travelogue: Penang Day 3

Date: 26th September 2010
The tour and the journey back home.

8.30am : Woke up to get a shower and started waking one-by-one. After the shower, I took my dive log, a magazine and my camera to the balcony and sat there enjoying the breeze and the scenery.

9.30am : We went for our buffet breakfast and it was a good breakfast. After breakfast, we sat by the pool, relaxing and later we walked across the bridge to Miami beach where we started taking photos. It was the moment of laughter and fun.

11.00am : We went back to the room and took another shower as we were covered in sand.

12.00pm : Checked out and it was a 30 minutes drive to town for lunch at Penang Road. It was Asam Laksa and Cendol for lunch. We then took a walk around Komtar where Peng bought her dancing heels.

2.00pm : It was still early that afternoon. We went to The Chocolate Boutique for a cup of coffee and some chocolate tasting.

3.00pm : We paid RM12 per person and had an hour tour in Cheong Fatt Tze Mansion (Blue Mansion). It was a great tour but too bad, no photographings allowed in the mansion.

4.00pm : It was time to hit the road and back to Kuala Lumpur.

9.00pm : We reached Damansara Uptown for dinner at a Pan Mee shop.

Yes! The trip is now official over. It was a short but great weekend with the dives and the tours and the food. Had a good time although I was suffering from muscle sprain after the dives.

That's the end of my 1st Travelogue...hopefully there's more to come.

Travelogue: Penang Day 2

Date: 25th September 2010
The day of the International Cleanup Day

6.00am : I woke up early that morning to have a hot shower and packed all my things before checking out at 6.45am to catch a bus to Swettenham Pier to meet the rest of the divers for the International Cleanup Day in Payar Island. I left one of my luggage in the hotel.

7.00am : Walked out to the main road and caught bus No. 302 and asked the kind driver to stop at the Pier, and so he did. It was a bit confusing especially on the gate to enter to the pier. I waited and waited for a glimpse of other divers and only at about 7.45am, I met a guy named Jafri who helped me to meet up with the other divers.

8.00am : We gathered at the pier and gotten our seats in the ferry. We were then called out to have photo-taking sessions before departure.

8.15am : The ferry leaves Swettenham Pier for Payar Island

10.00am : Arrived at Langkawi Coral, Payar Island. We were then briefed of the dives and were allocated our buddies. I buddied with Cheah from Ipoh. We were each given 2 plastic bags, a pair of gloves, strings and pen knife. We geared up and took a group photo.

10.45am : Dive No.1. Cheah and I went to the right side of Langkawi Coral. It was clear visibility that morning and not only we saw fishes and corals, we saw lots of rubbish too.

12.00pm : Completed dive No.1. We surfaced, took a rest before I went down snorkeling. We then waited for lunch to be served and had a good meal while having chit chats with the other divers.

1.30pm : We geared up and were brought to the Marine Park jetty to meet up with the officials and were told to clear the tires sitting at the sea bed. We then had a short boat ride to the side of the jetty where we did our 2nd Dive. There were not many rubbish as most were tires and fishing strings.

2.30pm : Cheah and I surfaced as we were not sure where we are heading to. It was pretty hard to surface as we had to look out for boat traffics above us. We were then brought back to Langkawi Coral where we waited for other divers. We filled up a form and were given certificate by Project Aware and had our last photo taking session.

3.30pm : The ferry departed from Payar Island back to Penang.

5.30pm : Arrived at Swettenham Pier, Penang. We bid each other farewell. I met up with Lynn, Angie and Peng outside the jetty and headed back to my hotel to pick up my luggage. We went around Penang looking for a hotel to stay for the night.

7.00pm : We arrived at Hydro Hotel, Batu Feringgi. Checked in. Refreshed ourselved.

8.30pm : Dinner at Hai Nam Restaurant. We made reservation for 4 people and had a good meal that night. We sat there and chatted the whole night through.

10.30pm : We headed back to Batu Feringgi to look for DVDs before heading back to the hotel to sleep.

It was a tiring day but it was worth it to participate in my 1st International Cleanup Day. Will be volunteering for more of these events in the future.

Travelogue: Penang Day 1

Date: 24th September 2010
It was a trip to Penang for International Cleanup Day in Payar Island.

6.00am : Woke up for a cold morning shower and final packing. I had 2 bags and 1 diving equipment bag.

7.00am : Took the Star LRT train from Pandan Indah and interchange at Chan Sow Lin before arriving at Bukit Jalil station.

7.30am : Breakfast of fried rice and egg and 2 pieces of kuih at one of the stalls at Bukit Jalil temporary express bus station.

8.30am : Read The Star newspaper and boarded the bus to Penang. There were only 8 people in the bus throughout the whole journey.

1.30pm : Arrived at Sungai Nibong bus station. I walked out to the bus stand just outside the bus station. I saw bus No. 401 coming towards me and later took the turn into the bus station. My first instinct was to walk into the station to catch the bus but as I was reaching it, the bus drove off. The next thing I knew, the bus actually stopped at the stand that I was in at the first place. So, I sat by waiting for the next bus. Bus No. 401 came again and it took off again without me eventhough I stood in front of it, waiting for the door to open *sweats*. So I waited...and bus No. 302 and No. 303 arrived. The uncle told me to take only bus No. 401 to the jetty...and so I waited and finally the bus arrived.

3.00pm : I finally arrived at Pengkalan Weld in the rain. I went to hire a cab that costs me RM10 to get to Old Penang Guesthouse at Love Lane, which was only 5 minutes away.

3.30pm : I checked into the guesthouse to room No.7. It was a great room with a comfortable bed and airconditioning. I love the room...the best backpacker I've stayed so far. I had a short rest and washed up before I walked out to the bus stand just a minute away to get myself to Pengkalan Weld again.

4.00pm : At Pengkalan Weld. Some people are kind enough to help me to get to where I want to but there are also people who are not kind to scream and walk away when you walk up to them for directions. Anyway...as I was waiting for Bus No.103 to arrive, something funny and interesting happened. A 5 feet-long monitor lizard came invading the taxi stands and the convenient shops there! After watching the whole scene, I boarded the bus.

4.45pm : I stopped at a bus stand at Tanjung Bungah to picked up my t-shirt and payment of my diving equipments. I later took another bus down to Gurney Plaza.

5.30pm : I arrived at Gurney Drive. I was superb hungry as I did not have lunch. I got myself a Bak Gua bun and walked to Gurney Plaza. I had a short walk around before I went to MPH for a read. It was so cold as I was soaking in the rain.

6.00pm : I sat at a bus stand just outside Gurney Plaza, waiting for the bus to take me back to the hotel. I waited for 1 hour. I then decided to take a cab, paid RM12 to go back to the hotel.

7.30pm : I arrived at the hotel, took a bath and went out to get myself dinner.

8.30pm : I had a plate of Wantan Mee and a glass of Fresh Orange. I went walking around the street before packing a pack of Char Kuey Teow, 2 pieces of Apom and a can of Guiness Stout. I headed back to the hotel for my 2nd round of dinner.

10.00pm : I was so tired that I went to bed with the lights on.

It's the first time I traveled on my own for a holiday and it was interesting but at some times, I felt a little insecure when it comes to asking for directions or my way around. Many things happened in just one day but I had a great time.

I Wonder...

It's been quite some time since I last wrote a post that expresses my inner emotional cries (making it more dramatic lah~). But some things happening around me is surpressing my emotions more and more each day. I don't seem to talk about it to people, maybe that is why it's surpressing me from within.

I wonder how much I can accept of people misusing my friendship, my professionalism, my feelings, my actions and others. Most of the time, after taking all these craps, I kept all to myself and ponder about it as if it was my wrong doings that led me to the situation. It brings me heartache, frustration and tears at times. But, no matter how deep these cuts are, I do not know how to express them out.

I wonder how long it'll take for me to hold on a permanent job, permanent house, permanent life. I've been moving 4 times this year itself, job hopped 3 times as well. I do dream of having a permanent job, a house to myself with fully furnished condition, a car under my name, a savings which I will spend during my retirement age, but it seemed too hard and far to reach.

I wonder if I'll ever stop being so nomadic and adventurous. Seemed to me that I'm always somewhere doing things like diving, hiking, climbing but at times I kept thinking whether I'm really happy doing all these. I kept questioning myself...but no doubt, I'm happy with my abilities to do all these activities. I would like to pursue more in the future.

I wonder if I finally leave this place to another, who and what will I become. I am eager to explore the world, eager to try new environment, but it takes time before I'm able to leave. Trying and I'll never give up.

Okay, I gotta stop typing this post. It took my 2 train rides to finish typing. Yes, I'm currently typing this while standing in the train from Cheras to Petaling Jaya. I'll put a fullstop here.

*FULLSTOP*

Malaysia Day Sape Tour

It was Malaysia Day Public Holiday, first time since Malaysia was formed in 1963 (I just have to emphasize this). I found out about this event through Facebook and invited Lynn to come along. It was held in Annexx, Central Market for the first time too.

There were performances by locals from KL and later it was the main performance by the Kayan's from Murum, Sarawak. The moment the sape was played, I felt I was home... It was so relaxing and wonderful.

...performance by a KLite...

After their short performances, the Kayan head talked about their life before and after Bakun Dam. From the looks of everyone's face that time, I knew that none of them knew exactly what happened behind the media about Bakun Dam. It was an eye opener to everyone to hear directly from the victims of the dam.

...a face-to-face meet on Bakun Dam...

The night ended with a mix performances from both the ethnic group and the KLites, playing their own piece of instruments together.

It was a good event and hopefully, more of this event to come in the future.

Happy Malaysia Day

Happy Malaysia Day...finally!
After 46 years when Sabah, Sarawak and Singapore joined Malaya to formed Malaysia, this date is finally being acknowledged. What happened throughout the 46 years? Is this date not important? For 53 years, we were told and implanted that Malaysia Merdeka on the 31st August 1957 but people from Sabah and Sarawak have been trying to voice out to the West...but all was ignored until this year. Finally!

A day to remember by all Malaysians as Malaysia was formed on 16th September 1963!

What how much does Malaysians know about this date?

Bringing Two Halves Together by June H.L. Wong

For too long, we didn’t pay enough attention to Malaysia Day. Now that we have, there is still much to be done to forge a greater sense of unity, togetherness and appreciation of each other.

YESTERDAY was Malaysia Day. We “celebrated” it, or rather took note of it for the first time because it was a national holiday.

It’s good that we have finally given recognition to an immensely important historical event but one wished it had come sooner.

Imagine what we could have achieved if we had started years ago. That was what hit me when I read our Malaysia Day Star Special. It was the work of my colleagues who were picked for their familiarity with Sabah and Sarawak. Together, they produced an excellent edition that focused on giving a voice to Malaysians in those two states.

While I enjoyed the stories, I came away feeling that after 47 years there seems to be two nations, not one. All this leads to the inevitable question: Why is this so? Is it because of the way history is taught in schools?

From my time as a student – and I am a true blue product of the Malaysian education system from kindergarten to university starting from the mid-1960s to the early 1980s – till now, our history books seem to end with Merdeka declared on Aug 31, 1957, with only a cursory look at the events after that. The creation of Malaysia seems barely imprinted in our consciousness.

It is this failure to connect the two halves of the country that we now find ourselves in the embarrassing situation of being ill-informed of what brought these halves together as a nation and who these people are who share the same nationality as us.

It’s not just our education system that has failed. There are other institutions that should have played their part but didn’t.

Yesterday, the Department of Museums Malaysia director-general announced plans to showcase the cultures and lifestyles of ethnic groups in Sabah and Sarawak.

Datuk Ibrahim Ismail, who oversees 21 museums nationwide, was quoted by The Star as saying this would enhance integration among all Malaysians.

We support and applaud Ibrahim for his plans but again it also beggars the question: Why only now? Why wasn’t this done from the moment Tunku Abdul Rahman proclaimed “Merdeka Malaysia!” on Sept 16, 1963?

Ibrahim was spot-on when he said Peninsular Malaysians were only familiar with very few communities from Sabah and Sarawak. When The Star editors met on Wednesday evening to pick the front page photo for the Thursday edition, none of us Semenanjung folks could confidently identify the ethnic groups represented by the four pretty girls standing in front of the Malaysian flags.

We had to call our Kuching colleagues who told us the girls were Rungus and Kadazan. While it took a peninsular leader to create this entity called Malaysia, it is those in Sabah and Sarawak who seemed to have embraced it more whole-heartedly.

They are the Malaysians who are more colour blind and united, as observed by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak himself. They are the ones who more comfortably adopted Malay as their lingua franca and intermarried more easily and with greater acceptance.

More than ever, we need to confront the truth why Peninsular Malaysians are “less Malaysian” than those in Sabah and Sarawak. Then only can we accept that something needs to be done; that we must bring the two halves of the nation closer together and learn the best practices from each other.

And we can do it because we do have common values and interests. It’s called 1Malaysia and if we can put aside our knee-jerk cynicism towards such a notion and really work towards it, it can become a reality.

Apart from getting our history books, Sejarah lessons as well as our museums right, we could also take a leaf from Hollywood and Singapore’s MediaCorp which produced TV series like Phua Chu Kangand The Little Nyonya.

Much as we hate to admit it, that little Red Dot of a country repeatedly runs rings around us and seizes upon ideas and opportunities way ahead of us.

Why do Malaysians love Phua Chu Kang? Why isn’t this TV character and his adorably dysfunctional family a Malaysian creation?

We know clever and sincerely wrought humour, even if built on stereotypes, can be accepted and enjoyed wholeheartedly. We have Lat to prove that.

So why haven’t we been able to build on Lat and have something that we share proudly?

Singapore keeps stealing our lines. Again, we should have come up with something like The Little Nyonya, a 2008 MediaCorp production about a Peranakan family set in Malacca spanning 70 years, currently on ntv7 with a huge following.

We could have done it better and truer too be cause the cast would speak in a mix of Malay, Hokkien and English instead of Mandarin in the Singapore series.

It’s not that we haven’t done it before – produced shows that Malaysians wanted to watch. We had those much-loved P. Ramlee movies, Bakat TV (this talent competition was the hottest thing on TV circa 1972) andEmpat Sekawan.

If we look hard enough, we can find great stories to tell. For one, there is the fictional pirate created by Italian writer Emilio Sagari in 1883 called Santokan, the Tiger of Malaya, who was the nemesis of White Rajah James Brooke of Sarawak. Wouldn’t that make an exciting series if done right?

Remember that excellent Maybank advertisement about the Iban girl making her way in the world without forgetting her roots? Could that have been expanded into a powerful and riveting drama that would get Malaysians cheering for one of their own?

Here’s another idea: Next year marks the 500th year of the fall of the Malacca sultanate in 1511. That is one date we all learnt in school. Can you just imagine a gripping TV series based on the events leading to that year of infamy? History can be useful if we know how to wield it.

Raya ChilloutsDate:

Date: 10th September 2010
Location: Broga Hill, Semenyih

It was 5.30am that morning when Angie, Fei and I reached the foot of Broga Hill and it was raining. But, there were so many cars parked around the oil palm estate that we decided to continue our hike. It was 'human-jams' all the way until the 1st peak where the rain got heavier. That didn't stop me from taking photographs. There with a small torchlight, I took out my tripod and covered my camera with my jacket and took photographs from underneath the jacket. It was until about sunrise that the rain stopped that we moved on until the 4th peak. There were so much laughter looking at Fei who did a short music video, the jump shots, the rock climbing and lots more. Finally after a whole morning on top of the hill in wet clothing, we hiked down and reached the foot about 11am before touring around the small town of Broga and brunch in Kajang.

...an overview of Semenyih from 1st peak...

Date: 11th September 2010
Location: Batu Caves, It's A Hit! One Utama, Subang

The next day was another adventure for us and we had Pikky to join the fun. We met up at Batu Caves at 9.30am and walked up the 272 steps to reach the cave temple. We spent some time in the caves, observing the monkeys eating and people praying and again...it was the jump shot!

After the morning tour around Batu Caves, we went to One Utama for softball at It's A Hit! and we played 12 tokens x 15 balls. It was a good first time playing batting!

We had such a good laugh at Pikky's playing PS3, basketball and futsal before a delicious Bak Kut Teh dinner at Subang.

Well, this particular meal was our reward for working out for 2 days straight!

-It was a good raya spent outdoors-

What We Are Made Of - Scott Mallone

In time i will show you i’m not leaving
That i will wait right here for your love
God knows, what we are made of
God knows, what we’re afraid of
And if you cry, i will comfort you

I will save you
I will sacrifice my life
I will love you
For who you are not who you used to be

In time i will show you i’m still believing
God knows, that if you call, i would come to you

No matter where you are i’ll be with you
No matter who you are i’ll be with you
No matter where you are i’ll protect you
No matter who you are i will love you

Missing the Martial Art

I'm actually missing the times I had learning Karate back in Uni. Though I didn't take up the belts, but I learn a lot about self defense and martial art itself. Now that I took up Body Combat in gym, I get to kick and punch to release stress and workout at the same time.

How I wish I can continue Karate...

Little Hammie

...Hammie the Hamster...

This little hamster is a new member in the office, mothered by Lynn who bought her from a pet shop. It was a little shy and quiet at first but after a week, it's super hyper. Now that it's always in the office during the day, it's our little pet to play with after a series of stress at work.

-at this moment writing this blog, little Hammie is in the ball rolling about on my desk-

Short Treks at Bukit Kiara & Bukit Gasing

Date: 7th September 2010 (Tuesday)

FYI, this ain't a leisure jungle trekking moments I had - it was a recce moments for the movie I'm working on at the moment. I didn't actually planned to jungle trek in this recce session but when I reach my first destination I had no choice but to hike in the treks to find a suitable space for the scene...and so I did.

Location No.1: Bukit Kiara
I found this location when I was googling for Forest Reserve for my own leisure hiking. So, I went google-mapping the location and drove there. Little did I know, it was actually a Lake Garden and at one corner of the parking lot, you will see the entrance to the hike. So, I equip myself with my SLR, my handphone and there I started the walk. It was pretty scary to hike on my own furthermore I'm not at all familiar with the trek. Though it was an easy one, it was rather scary. I walked about 10 minutes into the trek and decided to turn back. I found a good spot for the scene but now, it's logistics issue...hmm...

...the entrance to the jungle trek...

...one part of the trek - damn slippery if it rains...

Location No.2: Bukit Gasing
Another place I googled. It's pretty amazing to find forest in the middle of the city. I drove through the JKR houses and come across the pretty looking entrance at the main road. I parked the car and started the trek from the entrance. Funny thing was, I picked up my phone and called Lynn telling her that I'm heading into the jungle and if she do not hear from me for the next 24 hours, she should call the police... *laughs* So, it was another 10 minutes of trekking into the path before I turned around. The nice part about Bukit Gasing is that there's a small stream along the path. There are 2 paths from the entrance and mind you, it's a very long hike and you will end up in different parts of the hill.

...the pretty looking entrance...

...the path into the jungle...

...the map at the entrance...

I would like to trek these 2 places one day - for leisure trekking lah~
Will find time to do so...

Pangkor Getaway

...map of Pangkor Island...

Date: 27th - 29th August 2010
It was a sudden plan to Pangkor Island that weekend...I seriously mean SUDDEN! I browsed through some weekend holiday plans on the internet and I came across a 'Jom Santai' package to Pangkor Island and decided to give it a call and mana tahu, we got the package booked, paid and organized.

Day 1: Friday (holiday for Nuzur Quran)
Lynn and I drove from Cheras at 5.30am to the petrol station for a fuel refill before heading straight to North-South Highway to Bidor for breakfast. Our time estimation were all accurate and we finally reached Lumut at 9.30am for a ferry to Pangkor Island.

...and the Facebook status update started...

We checked into Puteri Bayu Pangkor Resort and had a good rest before cycling out to get lunch (the sun was seriously hot that afternoon). After lunch, it was a stroll at the beach (again, under the hot sun) for photo takings. It was a relaxing first day on the island. The first thing that I looked forward to was the sea...and I was rather disappointed to see that the sea was more greenish than bluish *sob sob*

...had to climb up the tree to take this photo...

But, the sunset was beautiful and thank goodness we didn't missed it. We were just in time to catch the final few minutes before the sun disappears. Later that night, we went out to the nearest restaurant for a great dinner.

...the sunset...

Day 2: Saturday
It was another relaxing day for us with breakfast, lunch and dinner in the resort (provided in our package. We were supposed to head out for snorkeling but there weren't anyone going out so we went out to the beach for our sun bathing moments (during the 12pm sun). Since we had an Island Excursion (on land) free in our package, we redeemed it that afternoon. We hopped into a pink van and explored the whole island - temples, beaches, Chinese village, Malay village, etc.

...land Island Excursion...

Day 3: Sunday
It was our last day on the island. We hopped into a boat out for Island Excursion on Sea. We went around looking at rock formations and was left (casted away) on Monkey Beach (literally, there were a lot of monkeys around) for couple of hours for swim, snorkeling (yeah right~ there's nothing to see!). The boat came and picked us up at 12.30pm and we had to quickly shower and packed and checked out. We took the ferry out from the island at 2.30pm and drove to Lumut town to have McDonalds before heading back home.

...the sand and the sea of Pangkor...

Though it was just a 3 days 2 nights trip to Pangkor, it was a great one - relaxed and rejuvenated. I never had so much time to eat, sleep, sun bath and chill in any of my vacations. I am glad we made the trip.

Another time to Pangkor? ...hmm, I'll think about it.

*diving was RM250 per dive in a fishing boat at Pulau Sembilan! -cut throat-

Merdeka?

It was again...another year celebrating the 'joyous' occasion here in Malaysia - Merdeka Day - on the 31st August every year. Sometimes I wonder why this day is so important to Malaysians, as I feel it's like any other day of the year. But, when we look back 53 years ago, it was the most memorable day for our grandparents and our parents' generation to finally have Malaysia as an independent country. But, is this spirit still alive in the newer generation? I wonder...

Anyway, enough of story-morey. It was like any ordinary weekend to me. I spent the morning in the gym and later I met Yuki Lai, a friend from university in Sunway Pyramid. The last time we met was a year ago before we departed from Miri to head on with our career. We had a long talk over lunch at Ole-Ole. There were so many things to talk and to share about each other. It was so great to see her again.

...our infamous syok sendiri photo...

I had to leave while Yuki was heading for a movie. We bid farewell and hope to see her again some day; either in China or in Malaysia *smiles*. I drove to office to meet Lynn and Angie for lunch at a Vietnamese Restaurant @ Tropicana City Mall. So much that I hate Vietnamese food, I finally found coffee that is better than Starbucks!

...Vietnamese Drip Coffee with Milk...
*superb*

We had such a long talk over lunch until it was time to meet Sok Peng and Pikky for a movie - Step Up 3. We 'seludup' **** (something to be kept to ourselves) in to eat during the movie and it was...a GREAT MOVIE indeed!

...Step Up 3...

Whoever is into dance, this is one hell of a movie to watch. The dance move is so amazing that it will blow you away. I was fascinated with the choreography of the battles and the music are just awesome. Though the story is very predictable, I was very much concentrating on the dances. It's a movie worth watching...even a few times.

We headed to Craft Brews for a drink and snacks. I finally ordered my Green Monster Lager and it was ~not bad~ but the food there was great! We sat there, drinking, eating, gossiping for hours and only at about 1am, we decided to head home.

Merdeka? It's just like any ordinary day. Nothing much to hoo-haa about anymore unless certain things in this country change for the better. I do pray that one day, I will be able to see this country as how it was portrayed in history 53 years ago...that I will be proud to call myself a true Malaysian.

Like any other year on the 31st August, this is how I spend this 'historic' day...

Happy Merdeka to all fellow Malaysians out there!
