This new year's eve was a very long day for me and my mum. I woke up at 9am and was in the kitchen until 7pm, to prepare our family steamboat dinner. It was a whole day of chopping, cooking, washing...
Grandma, uncles, aunts, cousins came by for the dinner and there were lots and lots of food! We had steamboat, fried chicken, ka cha ma, curry lamb, egg fried crab, broccoli, shepherd's pie, salad...and a chocolate cheese cake from Secret Recipe :) ...we didn't had such a big family dinner for a very long time...
...the whole table with food...
...the a lot of stuff in the steamboat...
...the shepherd's pie I made...
...the chocolate cheesecake from Secret Recipe...
...and how Jonathan and Aaron enjoyed the crabs...
After the 'older generation people' left, the 'younger generation people' were busy talking until it was about 10.30pm where we went off, driving around town to see how Kuchingnites celebrate New Year's Eve. There were jams in the city, with 2 roadblocks; one at Padang Merdeka and another at Waterfront. No doubt that Mojo, Soho, Ipanema, Grappa and Travillion were full with people. There was a dance competition at Crown Square - we managed to park at the roadside, rolled down the window and peek at the stage for a while. Then, we were off to Boulevard. There were a lot of people, sitting at the side, waiting for the countdown and it was about 20 minutes before midnight where we manage to get a side parking right opposite Boulevard and waited for the fireworks. Apparently, Boulevard had a 5 minute earlier countdown but we had the 'best seat in the house' in the car watching fireworks.
...took all the fireworks from the car...
I guess this was our first and maybe the last time we, the Kuek cousins get to celebrate New Year's Eve together. After this, we are all embarking our own journey in the other side of the world.
It was a great day and a great celebration.
HAPPY NEW YEAR!
