Date: 29th & 30th November 2008
Venue: Eastwood Valley Golf and Country Club
25 CV!s volunteered in the 1st Miri Golden Child Camp organized by the Sarawak Children Cancer Society in Eastwood. We started with our first meeting on Monday and later a day for us to prepare all the games and presents for the event.
...I want this shirt!...
The first day morning was rather slow as we waited for quite a long while for the participants along with their parents to check into Eastwood. The clown was there to entertain the children before lunch. Things started to get actively running after the one hour break after lunch where all the children had games with us. We had the whole afternoon with the kids while the parents had a separate session which was conducted by the SCCS.
...the clown entertaining the kids and CV!s...
...'Catch my Name' game...
...Azie and Ka Wai with the kid...
...younger children on the coloring of 'Curtin Heroes'...
...even the parents were playing 'Hand and Mouth are not the Same'...
...Jelutong Hall where the games were held...
...can't remember what this game is called...
...and of course, time for syok sendiri...
It was later we had a break for shower and preparation for dinner. Together with Gerain, Catherine, Xiao Huan, Tze Fair, Izzat, Kelvin and GT, we had 2 dance performances on stage and later with all the CV!s together for Hounddog. Tiring but fun!
...our room in the Longhouse...
...Meranti Hall for the dinner...
...Lean on Me...
...everyone dancing Hounddog...
Catherine and I had to leave the camp that night to catch our flight the next morning. The children and parents were off to their rooms while we, CV!s were still in the hall - taking our group photos!
It was a great experience volunteering in this camp.
Though some of the children are fighting with their cancers, they can still laugh and play along with us.
...We'll definitely missed these kids...
