O-Week Sem 2, 2008

I'll wrap up this post as fast as I can. At least to share some photos on the O-Week Semester 2, 2008 here in Curtin. I underwent SOAR Advisor training and got into SOAR Advisor but I had to pull out from it due to JCLA. But of course, I went for O-Week as a CV! instead; or let's just say, the unofficial photographer for CV!, SOAR and Student Council. Everyone tends to see me walking around with my camera, taking photos of anything I find interesting.

I was only there for 3 days and was practically busy taking photos, setting up AppleBox Pictures booth, dealing with my timetable, sorting out my advance standings and also to find information about the Program Karyawan Muda; a competition Mr. Rama wanted my documentary to go for.

It was only 3 days for me this O-Week. And again, took many many photos. Haven't had the time to sort it out and upload it to the net. It was another great O-Week I had as a CV!. Looks like I won't be in SOAR anymore... *sob sob*

Hellboy II and Japanese Food

At least I get to go for a movie before leaving back to Miri. Thanks to Adeline who 'ajak' us out (but I still have to drive...sigh~), we managed to have a whole afternoon for movie and dinner. There were confusions between the information in the newspaper and the correct movie time in the cinema. Lucky us, we got there 5 minutes before the movie starts and still have good seats.

HELLBOY II: THE GOLDEN ARMY

Hellboy, along with other three agents from the Bureau for Paranormal Research and Defence; Liz, a pyrokinetic, Abe, an aquatic empath and Johann Krauss, a protoplasmic mystic were on a mission to save the earth from Prince Nuada who unleashed the Golden Army

I didn't manage to watch the first sequel of Hellboy, but based on reviews from friends, I decided to go for it. It was funny. I laughed all through the movie even at those fighting scenes. It was a 120 minutes film directed by Guillermo del Toro. Love those makeup and costumes, made the characters look real.

After we were done for the movie, Adeline proposed to go to Sarawak Plaza and (dengan udang disebalik mee) she wanted to buy a bag. Chech~ Jess and I were being mummy to help her choose the bag she wanted. After purchasing, we were in a dilemma - where to eat??? We practically stood outside Hartz Chicken Buffet for probably almost to half an hour, trying to figure out where to eat. At last, we decided to go the Spring to have Japanese food (not at Sushi King of course) just at the food bazaar.

Rainforest World Music Festival 2008

Finally~ I was at RWMF~ Why I say finally??? Because, I have been wanting to go since 2003 where Habana Sun Club came to my school to perform. Every year, I look forward to the event but it never 'jadi' coz I was in KL for my studies and during that time, I was usually having my exams. Sigh~ So, this year, I sent my volunteering application on the 2nd January and a month before the event, they gave me a call - I was accepted to be a volunteer~ - and few days later, we had our pre-appreciation dinner and a month later, it was the event.

I was given a room to stay along with three other volunteer at Santubong Resort for 4 nights, 3 days pass to the event and also some pocket money for our lunch and dinner. Breakfast and supper were both in the hotel. 

The night before the event, the Gate Control unit came for a short briefing where we were given 2 shirts each and our name tags which we use for free shuttles to the Cultural Village. My shifts were: 

Day 1: 4.00pm - 11.30pm

Day 2: 9.30am - 4.30pm

Day 3: 9.30am - 4.30pm

How wonderful~! I get to see the concert for Day 2 and Day 3!!! AMAZING~~~

There were not many photos taken throughout the event because my DSLR was at home, resting while I was carrying my mum's Nikon digital camera. Met some Curtin'ians there; Ian, Raymond, Augusting...they were working as Security.

Day 1 of my shift was tough. We were mostly new to the job. There were a few guys who had been working for 3 years but majority are new. It was hard also to tag the wrist band as we need to make sure that it is tight. Crowds came in non-stop during the night and further more, it was raining heavily. The Prime Minister and Chief Minister of Sarawak was there that night for the opening. And of course, by the end of the night, I was all wet and my flu got worse.

Day 2 was an easy going day. There were not many people in the morning, but as soon as I got back from lunch, people were queuing non-stop and I finished off 3 bags within less than an hour. Met Mike from PGMAJ after my shift and also coincidentally met Ms Loh and her boyfriend there. Got back to Santubong for a shower but then realize that I did not carry the room card along, so I had to wait out in front of my room for 15 minutes for the housekeeping to open the room for me. Thanks to my tag, I boarded the shuttle and off I go to Cultural Village again where Amanda; a volunteer as well, and I went for the concert.

Day 3. I was looking forward to end my shift. Catherine and Hiew reached about 11am. It was a slow day for the Gate Controls. As our shift ended, we 'sempat' take photos and thanked our officers for having us throughout the three days. Met up with Catherine and Hiew and bumped into Valerian who joined us for the concert. Thanks to Motofuji Hiroshi, it rained heavily that night. As Hiew said, 'We got the whole package. Forest+Rain+Music = Rainforest World Music Festival'. Got back to the hotel and packed and checked out and sent my roommate, Joyce back home before ending up at McDonalds for supper.

It was a great experience to volunteer for Rainforest World Music Festival 2008. I hope to volunteer again in the future~

I'm back in Miri...again~!

The minute I wrote this blog, I am done checking the car with the help from Hiew and Raymond, I'm done checking the water pressure, I'm done changing my bedsheets, I'm halfway done unpacking my luggage, I'm ready to sleep after an explosive BBQ at Raymond's house...

The plane was on time...again...and this time, I was the first in line to get into the plane coz I stood right in front of the queue even before they made the announcement. Having the gate at Gate 1, there are not many seats available, so I was stuck standing for at least half an hour before the announcement. Got my usual seat again, seat no. 22 but tonight, the sky wasn't as nice as my previous flight. I could barely see the full moon as the clouds were just too thick and we were having turbulence in the plane the whole way. 

This stay in Miri is going to be a long one; 4 months for my final year, 1st semester and if I got a job, another 3 months probably in Kuala Lumpur and continue with my final year, final semester for another 4 months and straight to KL again for my long holiday before starting my job.

A long day ahead; meeting at 10am and another meeting right after that and have to rush to town to get the banner and broachers done. Sunday will be another long day for me to clean the house, prepare the broachers and of course, to go to church. Monday and Tuesday - orientation, helping as CV! and finally on Wednesday, the launching dinner for JCLA and of course, from Thursday to Sunday, I'll be at Borneo Tropical Rainforest Resort for JCLA's foundation camp. Wow~! Just a week before the semester and I'm done packed with things to do...

The most expensive certificate...

Finally 17 months after finishing my course at Malaysia Institute of Integrative Media, 2 months after the convocation day, 3 weeks after I faxed the form, a day after I called to demand... the 'most expensive certificate of my life' has finally reached Kuching~

I'm being very dramatic on this... I left KL after my internship without meeting up my college friends, I missed my convocation... It was worse than ever to ask for my certificate to be posted back to Kuching. Without this Diploma certificate, I'll be in trouble especially on my advance standing in Curtin. Gotten so frustrated with the management of MIIM especially after they moved to a small office from an enormous building on top of the hill in Wangsa Maju. 

Before leaving KL, there were news of the college on bankrupt and many issues arrises especially for the ones who are awaiting for their graduation, that includes me. I was worried of my certificate. Imagine spending RM18000 for the whole 3 years course and suddenly, you are in between graduating and loosing the certificate if the college were to declare bankruptcy. It was one hell of an experience.

I'm relief, finally, that my certificate is safe and sound with me now. Just another call to the office again -.-"" to demand for my access fee of RM250. *tagih hutang this~* 

On top of all these hustles and bustles, I learnt a whole lot of things, met lots of friends and enemies and it all made me to a better person...

Bus Trip from Miri to Sibu and to Kuching

Bus ride from Miri to Kuching takes approximately 15 hours. *deng* So, instead of having my butt seated in the bus for that long period of time, Catherine, Hiew and I decided that we should take a break in between and that'll be at Sibu!

Left Miri early morning at 6.30am in a bus and headed down south to our next destination; Sibu. One things for sure, the ticketing counter girl cheated me, saying that the bus ride will take only 4 hours, but...it took us double the time. Reached Sibu only at 2pm, so that means it was a 71/2 hours! There were three stops in between; Batu Niah, Bintulu and some small town between Bintulu-Sibu.

First thing we did upon arrival in Sibu - to Li Hua Hotel! It was at the corner of the town so we have a long way to walk to the other corner of the town. Got a complimentary drink from the hotel and off we start our journey in conquering Sibu town within that afternoon.

Well, nothing much to see in Sibu though, so we finished walking around town even before the sun sets. Hahahaha... Bought food back to the hotel from the Night Market and watched some movies and off to bed.

The next day was another 7 hours of bus ride from Sibu to Kuching. Yeap, my butt was hurting for sitting too long in the bus. But, safely we arrived in Kuching at 10pm and off we went for our late dinner at Petanak's Western Food~!

It was indeed a loooooooooooooooooong journey but it was a fun one. Watching movie in the bus, sleeping hours through the ride, stayed in another small town and finished our tour within two hours...
