I am finally back in KL!

I had been wanting to watch this movie eversince I first saw the trailer. We were at IOI Mall, Puchong that night for dinner and decided to check on the movie time and apparently, the cinema shows only in 3D. We paid RM17 each for the tickets and went around the mall until the showtime at 9.10pm.

It was a great movie and it was just amazing watching it in 3D!

Grandma

It was just last Saturday that grandma was laid to rest.

Time passed fast indeed.

It had been a week already.

It was last Tuesday that I started taking care of her. I spent the whole morning and afternoon with her in her home, holding her hands as she walked up and down the house, making hot drinks for her when she's hungry, massaging her hands and feet when they are sore.

Wednesday was another day with her.

We talked as I massaged her. She gave me the white gold bracelet she was wearing.

'Grandma is getting older by the day,' she said.

I was able to just hold her hands as I walked her to the toilet that morning but as the time passed that day, I had to use a bit more strength to carry her a little every time she gets up. I could feel that she was getting weaker.

Later that afternoon, I went home just before the rain came. We had a call from aunt in the evening. Dad and I rushed to see her. The doctor just came for a visit and gave her a jab. She was much weaker than before.

Suddenly, she could barely walk back to the room from the toilet. Dad, aunt, cousin and I had to carry her to the room. She couldn't lift her head anymore. I tried to carry her up a little for her to take her medicine but I couldn't, even with the help from my cousin.

Dad and I went home.

Suddenly the door knocked. Mum told me that Dad was already on his way there. I quickly changed and drove my brother to the house. As soon as we arrived, we went into her room. We called her. She was in a semi coma state.

I went to move the car and as I came back to the house, I stood by the door. Moments later, Dad walked out from her room and told my aunt that Grandma has passed.

It was 12.40am on the 12th January 2012.

Grandma,

You will always be remembered in our hearts.

May God grant you eternal rest.

Amen.

It's 1st January 2012!

HAPPY NEW YEAR!!!

Another year has gone by...we bid farewell to twenty-eleven.

Time flies fast, indeed. It was just 365 days ago that I spent the New Year's eve BBQ'ing at a colleague's house and had a short view of fireworks at the strike of midnight. This year, I had to come home a day before New Year's eve, celebrating it far away from a particular someone.

As usual, it is the time to reflect upon the things I did throughout year 2011. So much has happened; highs and lows, the good and the bad, joy and sadness but ultimately, it was a great year to look back on...

One:

I am a RESCUE DIVER!

January 2011, I spent a week in Kota Kinabalu for the EFR and Rescue Diver certification. Despite having stranded at Kuching International Airport due to an accident on the runway, it was a great week well spent with new friends from all around the world. The courses were interesting yet challenging and I logged plenty of dives too! Another step closer to become a Dive Master... *woots*

Two:

VOLUNTEERINGS with NGOs

The first volunteering project was a two months project to work on two videos for the Sarawak State Election. I was a great experience meeting with the state leaders for interviews, browsing through video footages from all around the state and learning to protect my vote during the election. The videos are on Youtube and it was a great success too!

It was Freedom Film Festival 2011. I volunteered as a videographer for the screening in KL and as a photographer for the screening in Kuching. I watched all the videos screened in the festival. Looking forward to FFF 2012!

Four days three nights in the interiors of Sarawak? YES!!!

I volunteered as a videographer for the Penan Cultural Festival in Long Nen, Baram. It was my second visit and a seven hour journey into the jungles of Sarawak. I lived with the settled Penans and had a wonderful experience living with them and learning their cultures and way of life. I definitely look forward to another visit again soon!

Photographing for Arts for Grabs: Human Rights Day with Amnesty Malaysia. My last volunteering in 2011. My new Canon 60D was put to the test. It was definitely a different feel with the new camera. I love my new camera!!!

Three:

DIRECTING

I was given the opportunity to direct a 13 episodes Arts and Craft program called 'Kraf Kraf Kreatif' which was aired on TV9. It was a 13 days shoot and a 2 months edit. There were three kids and a guest celebrity in each episode. It was a fun and exciting shoot as I was able to learn arts and crafts myself while directing the show. If given the chance, I would want to direct the show all over again!

Four:

DIVE for Earth Day 2011

It was an underwater cleanup at Payar Island, Langkawi. I called my dive buddy, Chee Wai. We buddied again. It was a small scale event with less than 10 divers but we managed to pick up lots of rubbish in just one dive. We had a leisure dive after lunch and I totally enjoy the dives even with an ulcer in my mouth and a painful ear. Looking forward for another volunteering dive soon!

Five:

Tioman Island Holidays

Lynn and I decided to go on an island vacation nearby. We paid for a 3 days 2 nights stay at Tioman Paya Resort. I did four logged dives with Fareed from Sealantis and unfortunately, I did not manage to dive at Tiger Reef due to the strong current. It was the most scariest moment I had; drowning in sea waters and being pushed far away from the boat. I swore to return and conquer Tiger Reef one day!

I came back to Tioman Island again in September for another two dives with Funny, my dive master. The first site was just amazing. It was good to be back in the water again and will definitely come back to Tioman for more dives!

Six:

CLEVER! Season 2

Clever's back again with the second season; this time it was a joint-venture with Astro. Again, I PM'ed for the project, working with three other interns to contact schools from all around the Klang Valley and casted many many kids as well. The experiments were getting more and more interesting. We tested each and everyone of them. There were late nights, last minute experiments, endless problems with the other co-workers but I'm happy to say...I will never get bored of them!!!

Seven:

HIBERNATION...

It started with Angie, Sok Peng and Fei in Kuching for a week long holiday. We had lots of food, lots of walking, caving, jump shots and best of all the Rainforest World Music Festival!

Later, I took a flight to Miri for a two day dives with Sharon and Chris and a few meetups with friends from university. It was down memory lane again. I also took a solo drive to Brunei for a one day dive with Oceanic Quest in the ship wrecks. It was awesome!

It was definitely a great hibernation after months of stressful work.

Eight:

AFC

I received a call from Shelley and she offered me a project with Asian Food Channel. I was given the opportunity to Assist Direct a reality show. It was one of the best projects I had! We spent 5 weeks in KL and Penang, working closely with the team from Singapore. We stayed in good hotels, enjoyed delicious desserts, boarded a sunset cruise, karaoke with the crews and lots more. I had the best team ever!

Nine:

I'm an AUNT!

Brendan Kuek is his name! He was born on 18th September 2011...sooooo cute and naughty little boy. I have been taking lots of pictures of him! I am a generation older now, but heck...he's my Little Dimpled Duck!

Ten:

TELEMOVIE in Kuching

Though I am not proud of this project, but it was my first job in Kuching. I was given the insight of the TV industry in Kuching and to be honest, I do not like the scene at all. It was such a pain in the ass but ultimately I learn a hell lot - the hard way. I spent two months back home, working a few days at week from home but when the shoot draws near, all hell breaks loose!

Christmas this year!

This year's Christmas was rather quiet yet with so much differences around me; everyone else was back home this year. I went around several shopping centres and enjoyed their beautiful Christmas decorations; Mid Valley, One Utama, Times Square, etc.

Spent the eve of Christmas trying to get movie tickets for Sherlock Holmes but there were no seats left so I bought the tickets for Christmas Day instead. It was raining at night and there were just so much traffic around. Had Dominos pizza for dinner with a bottle of Montena!

Had homecook pasta for brunch on Christmas Day. Delicious~~~ Drove to Times Square for Sherlock Holmes at 2.10pm. It was such a GREAT sequel! Awesome show! The traffic in Times Square was horrible. There was such a long queue to leave from Basement 5 parking...talking about everyone heading back home for Christmas *sweats*

My 25th Birthday!

The day that I turn 25 years old...a quarter of a century old!

The day started with a birthday gift from all the way from Korea with a handmade card in it. This particular present was kept away from my sight for the past month and I could finally see it, touch it and used it now!

We had breakfast of Curry Chicken Noodles and Pork Ball Noodles before the whole afternoon well-spent at Mid Valley with photoshoots of the Christmas decorations and Alvin & The Chipmunks 3 at 5.00pm. We had lunch at Secret Recipe and you got me a cake; my favourite Chocolate Indulgence cake! *slurps*

After the movie, we went to The Gardens for dinner and I was caught in a surprise when Tiffany showed up with a Giordano bag and said, 'You think I forgot your birthday ha?'

There, with her big smile, she took out a container: Tiffany's home-made 25 layer nutella cake made specially for me! She took out a bottle of whipped cream, an aroma therapy candle, a fire starter and a knife...all from the Giordano bag she was carrying!

I made a wish, blew the candle, cut the cake...and I was still in shock!

It was one awesomest birthday I ever had and finally Tiffany pulled out a successful surprise with the help of Shu Chyi.

I had the best present ever too!

Police ban gay arts festival as threat to public order in Muslim-majority Malaysia

KUALA LUMPUR, Malaysia — Police ordered gay rights activists in Muslim-majority Malaysia on Thursday to scrap an annual arts festival aimed at fighting discrimination.

The “Sexual Independence” festival has been held under low-key circumstances in Kuala Lumpur since 2008, but growing awareness about the event has lead to criticism by politicians and religious leaders.

This year’s five-day festival — starting Nov. 9 at a private arts center and themed “Queer Without Fear” — featured planned musical performances of “queer anthems sung by fierce local singers and drag divas who know what it means to love out loud and proud,” organizers said.

But after criticism by the deputy prime minister and plans by several Muslim nongovernment groups to protest, police ordered the event to be canceled.

Authorities will “prevent any function relating to the program,” deputy police chief Khalid Abu Bakar said in a statement run by national Bernama news agency and confirmed by police representatives.

Many organizations “feared the program could create disharmony, enmity and disturb public order,” Khalid said.

Earlier Thursday, Deputy Prime Minister Muhyiddin Yassin had described the event as “inappropriate” and a “waste of time,” according to Bernama.

Gay rights activists did not immediately respond. Earlier, they had said the festival was meant to counter widespread homophobia in this socially conservative Asian nation, where a young gay man received death threats last year after posting a YouTube clip defending his sexuality.

“Asking us to keep quiet is asking us to take your abuse with a smile ... it’s time to put a stop to all the hate and misunderstanding and abuse,” festival spokesman Pang Khee Teik said in an online statement posted Thursday before the event was banned.

This year’s program also included plans for talks on sexuality issues, a poster exhibition and a makeup workshop by a drag queen. One session is titled “Defense Against The Dark Arts: Homophobia 101.”

Media censorship rules forbid movies and song lyrics that promote acceptance of gays, while a decades-old law makes sodomy punishable by 20 years in prison, though it is seldom and selectively enforced.

The festival’s sponsors and supporters included the Malaysian chapter of Amnesty International, the country’s main grouping of lawyers and other human rights organizations.

Such Dilemma!

Taking up photography was always my interest and after much hard work to save money, I bought myself a D40 in 2007; a present for myself after I completed my Diploma and 7 months of hardship at work. Since then, my camera never left my side. I started taking photographs for fun and then for events and I soon created my portfolio.

In 2009, I plucked up my courage to enter the pool. Mum supported me financially to take up the diving license. After 5 days of classes in the pool and in the sea, I passed and I became a diver! It was later after six month that I paid my first dive and when I took up a job in Redang Island for 2 months, I was exposed to so much diving, not to mentioned...underwater photography and videography. Since then, I logged many dives and started investing on my equipments and pursued my license. I am now a Rescue Diver, awaiting to pursue Dive Master soon.

As time passed...
Both these hobbies became more than just hobbies. I soon discovered a new career path!

I strive hard today. I am determine that one day, I will become a professional Underwater Photographer and Videographer. But...the path towards this dream of mine is so far-fetched *sigh*

After 4 years, my D40 is falling apart and now I need to invest on a new DSLR.
After 2 years, I want to complete my Dive Master before I can pursue my career.

Dilemma!

Both these hobbies are burning a big hole in my wallet...
I need a total of RM12,000 to get myself a new camera and to complete my course...and I need it SOON! Both has its deadline, and they're soon.

Such dilemma!
What can I do?

D90 or D7000?

...my one and only DSLR...

I bought my first Nikon D40 in June 2007 before I left KL for my studies in Miri and this camera of mine has been with me wherever I go; to the jungle, to the sea, to the mountains...and it has never failed me before. It has been such a loyal companion for 4 years now and despite all those tough photographing times I went through with it...it is still standing strong.

But, as the years passed, with the shutter life nearing to an end, the rubber on the lens coming off, loose focusing...I am contemplating to give it a good break.

A good break for the D40 means I will need to invest on a new DSLR...and I was already determined to get myself a D90 until...when I had a long chat with professional photographers who suggested another model; the D7000. After further research, I am very very very interested in getting the D7000 but..............................no $$$!

Comparing prices:
D90 - RM3598.00
D7000 - RM4998.00

HOW LAH???!!! Such a big price difference and where am I going to find the money for it!

HELP!!!

Now, let me sit down in one corner of the room and contemplate......................

The Relaxations in Tioman!

It was after a long hectic shoot that I finally made a 3 days 2 nights stay in Paya Beach Resort, Tioman for a good relaxing time before embarking on another hectic shoot in Kuching. Took a long 7 hours drive from home to Mersing through the night to board the 7.30am ferry to Paya Village on Monday morning. We managed to check in as soon as we arrived and had our lunch at the cafe near the jetty.

Later at 2.30pm, I boarded the wooden boat with Funny, my dive master for 2 dives and 2 dives only. First stop was at Pilot's Reef and 2nd site was Tomok and both dives were just amazing as I was shown with lots of macro creatures and the reefs were just amazingly beautiful. Not to mentioned that we boarded such a big boat with just the 2 of us! *smiles*

We had a good snorkeling swim out from our resort's beach later the evening before a good bath to head out for dinner. Dinner wasn't that great *disappointed* We took a walk at the path by the beach and bought ourselves duty free beers and started phototaking sessions!

...something not to be missed in Tioman: DUTY FREE BEERS!...

We spent the next day with snorkeling trips in the choppy waters, sun bathing in the boat, walking to the other island, braving through the storm with lightnings and thunders. The next day, we boarded the 10am ferry back to Mersing and drove to Kluang for good coffee and buns at the station and back home to KL.

It was ultimately a great island getaway!

One Day in Penang...After One Month Shoot!

After one month of hectic and stressful reality TV show shooting in Penang Island, it was a WRAP and it was a one day holiday well-spent the next. Booked a room at Old Penang Guesthouse and rented a Kelissa, it was time for some sun, sea, sand and food!

First stop was Ferringhi Beach. We parked the car at a parking lot beside Lone Pine Hotel and took a walk by the beach from one end to the other. We wanted to Parasail but unlucky for us, it was out of operations for the time being after the accident few months back. So, we spent the afternoon walking on the beach and soaking in the sea.

It was almost sunset that we walked into Lone Pine Hotel's Bungalow Cafe to have our favourite Beef Burger (I tried the Kid's Meal Beef Burger during shoot once and I loved it!). So we ordered one plate of the burger and enjoyed every bite of it~ *yumz*

And of course, that wasn't enough. We booked a table at Hai Nan Town Restaurant at Weld Quay for Penang Nyonya food. We made it in time before the kitchen closes at 9.30pm and it was a surprise for us that we had fireworks display right after dinner. We drove around Penang City (trying to finish the petrol we pumped) and ended up in a jam at Gurney Drive. We were so lucky to get a parking spot just in front of Gurney Plaza and paid 50cents for it. We had a walk down Gurney Drive and later, I went to tapau'ed my favourite Apom!

The night ended...

The next day was another adventure. First stop was the Chocolate Boutique where we tried almost every chocolate and coffee there are in the shop. Second stop was the Pinang Peranakan House. We paid RM10 each to have a self-tour in the mansion. Third stop was the Protestants Cemetary after the sudden rain we had a while before.

We returned the car that afternoon and waited for our bus back to KL that evening. Though it was just a one extra night stay in Penang, it was FUN! Finally, after one month on shoot on the island, we managed to go sight-seeing and had good food as well!

I first saw the trailer when I was watching Harry Potter in the cinema. It did somehow caught my attention to watch it on the big screen. The morning started with a good McDonalds breakfast and a walk to Berjaya Times Square's GSC only to find out that the 11.30am show was canceled. I decided not to waste my time and money in watching other shows, so I walked to Pavilion's GSC to catch the 11.40am show. It was great because there were only 4 people watching the show.

Finally! The last sequel of Harry Potter. Yes...I watched all sequels in the cinema. I'm not exactly a fan of Harry Potter but it was a great show to followup. Took me a long while to finally watch the show in the cinema; no tickets available, no good seats, etc...and I ended up watching it in 3D and I should say, it was AWESOME! Enjoyed the 2 hours in the cinema, with a little tears here and there.

I bought the tickets 2 days before the show started at Mid Valley; it was definitely a good idea. Seats were great and thankfully, it was a good show. Though some actions in the movie were quite funny and ridiculous but hey...it's Chris Evans!

A Trip to Minyak-land!

A last minute plan to fly from Kuching to Miri and a one day dive-road trip to Brunei for the weekend. My air tickets were fairly cheap; considering the last minute purchase and it was my first time flying with MasWing's ATR plane. The 90 minutes flight I took early that morning was pretty interesting that I was awake the whole entire journey...what was interesting? Hmm...I don't know but the feeling of going back to Miri is just *doop dup doop dup*

I rented 'the Kelisa' I rented last year when I was in Miri for graduation and it was 'the same Kelisa' that Mum and I rented when she was here for holidays few years back which had us into accidents with Hilux...3 times! But anyhow, it was a good car to drive and fuel efficient too!

Settled with the car rental, I headed straight to Curtin University to meet up with Juliana for lunch and some catching ups. I spent the entire afternoon in campus, sitting down at the cafeteria and reminiscing on the past. It was later that I met Elizabeth at her office before arriving at Sharon's place for the night.

Day 2: Road Trip to Brunei for dives!

I woke up early that morning and left home at 5.15am to Permyjaya's Shell and McDonalds for fuel and breakfast. It was 6am that I crossed the Sungai Tujuh Check Point and off I drove for 2 hours to Oceanic Quest at Muara. The sunrise was beautiful along the way and actually...it wasn't a hard and tiring drive, maybe because I was over excited with the dives.

It was one of the best wreck dives I've done so far...not to mention it was a real wreck (not some artificial wreck someone sank into the sea as a dive site). I had good lunch, great dive master and of course, very interesting sites which I will definitely come back again one day for more! Had a short rest before I took on another 2 hours drive back to Miri that evening and sunset was beautiful~ It was on my 60 minutes drive that I realized I left my new Bares dive gloves in the dive centre... *sigh*

Day 3: Diving in Miri with Sharon & Chris!
Another 3 dives in Miri waters with Tropical Divers and my first time to dive with Sharon and Chris. On our second dive, the rain came above us but we barely felt a thing other than the diving in the dark and rain drops on the water surface. Though the weather was rather dark and rainy, it was a great dive.

Day 4: Chill out Sunday
I sat outside the house with my dive log and computer, checking through the photos and videos I took and there goes one 'haaaaaacuuuuiiii!' ...oh shites! Flu came in, cough came second and fever came third. I turned pale immediately *sweats* I spent the whole afternoon, trying not the get a nap and later I had an alone time walking at the beach before having dinner with Kylie at Banana Leaf Restaurant.

...it was definitely a good time for my to clear my mind...

Day 5: Diving in Miri again!

This time, I went for dives on my own with 2 other divers with a really bad flu and fever up on my sleeves. First dive was alright. 2nd dive was terrible because I couldn't equalized but after I managed to, my mask was flooded with the slimes. 3rd dive, I was freezing at 30 degrees. Though I had a hard time trying to warm myself on the boat, I had a good time!

Day 6: A walkabout in Miri City
At 7am, Sharon dropped me off at SunCity where I started my journey to walk the city. It was a good one hour walk, taking photographs here and there and had my kolo mee for breakfast before having Americano at Starbucks while waiting for Juliana to campus. Had a good meetup with the JCLA facilitators. It was 1pm that I took the public bus down to town again and back home to pack my bags and off to the airport.

It was a great weekend trip to Miri and Brunei. Had lotsa fun...meeting up with friends and enjoying the food that I missed and looking back at the great moments I had in university. Definitely looking forward to coming back to my 2nd home again one day!

Dive Trip to Brunei and Miri!

Date: 14th - 19th July

I was a last minute plan to Miri for dives and I got side tracked to Brunei for wreck dives (not to mentioned I drove 2 hours to and 2 hours back from Miri to Brunei just for 3 dives on Friday). But anyhow, it was a great holiday in the Minyak-lands!

Dive started the day after I arrived in Miri from Kuching. I rented a car and drove up to Brunei for 2 wrecks and 1 reef dives with Oceanic Divers. Jim, my buddy cum instructor gave me a good tour in the Brunei waters; Cement Wreck, American Wreck and Abana Reef and I definitely enjoyed my time taking photographs (camera courtesy to Sharon). It was a hot, sunny, calm day in the waters with 6 other divers. Lunch was delicious and the day ended with a very big smile on my face *smiles* and a plan to return to Brunei for Wreck and Nitrox Specialty Courses soon!

I took another 2 hour drive back to Miri (beautiful sunrise and sunset along the way). Day 2 diving started early the next morning with Sharon and Chris. The boat departed from Marina Bay with Tropical Divers.

We dove Kenyalang Wreck (this site changed a whole lot since my first dive here last year), Sunday Reef and Southern Eve. It was quite a rough ride as the rain came when we were underwater and the waves came in hard after. But, by the end of the day, I was another layer darker *smiles*

I had a break on Sunday and there came my flu *sigh* Since I came to Miri for dives, I decided not to skip my dives on Monday. So with some medication, off I went in the boat to 3 other dive sites; Seafan Garden, Belais Reef and Western Eve. Only to come across some problems...cannot equalized on my 2nd dive, mucus all over my mask, shivering cold at 30 degrees underwater! I had fun taking photographs and videos underwater and of course, myself~

...I logged 9 dives in both Brunei and Miri. 60 dives and counting...

Will be back...one day~!

It was another season of Clever! Edisi Malaysia...with more exciting and mind-blowing experiments to work with. The 2 days shoot we had was fun and of course, a bad sun burn before the rain upon the director saying 'its a wrap!'. It all ends well and now, looking forward to the studio shoot next week!

It's been 2 weeks since I started my new project...*excited*

And for the past 2 weeks, I was in the office from 10am till 10pm and spent most of my time facing my laptop, answering phone calls and delegating workloads to my interns. Though it was a bit of a sail for now, I know (deep down) that I am about to face something stressful soon. But, I'm definitely praying for a smooth sailing shoot this time around.

Next week's the outdoor shoot: 2 days of sun burning in the middle of an open field, blowing things up and sitting in a fire engine truck.

3 weeks from now is the studio shoot: 7 long days in the studio to shoot 13 episodes of mind blowing scientific experiments.

Definitely looking forward to the shoots!

S.O.X All-Stars Drum & Dance '11 at Johor Bahru

It happened with a phone call from Shelley and then it was off to Johor Bahru early Saturday morning. We arrived at 5.30am and went for breakfast before our work started at 7am at location. I was assigned to Camera 2 with Ah Wing (cameraman) and Nicholas (assistant). We started the day with pickup shots of the banners, the venue and the location of the event before the buses arrived with the students in it. It was a much relaxing shoot and we all had lots of fun at the same time.

We ended the night after shooting the performances and hoped into the bus heading to New York Hotel but before calling it a night, we had IKAN BAKAR for supper *yumz*

The next morning started at 10am where we woke up for breakfast in the hotel, checked out and off to the location to start shooting the competition. To our surprise, the competition ended very early that afternoon and of course, we headed to Yong Peng for Fish Ball Noodles before going back to KL.

It was a fantastic weekend shoot at Johor Bahru.
Hopefully will be there for the finals in KL!

Macx in ICU

My dear Macx is currently in ICU here in KL and what the Apple Service Centre in Times Square quoted me is that the laptop's Logic Board is down and to replace it, I'll have to spend RM1700! But, funny is that the symptom of the problem doesn't really fit into the repair methods so, I'm paying RM100 to get Macx back and have my mum to send it back to Kuching this weekend for a good check-up.

The Finale!

It was the final night of talks by the opposition parties before the election on the 16th April...and to everyone's surprise, the crowd went to about 35,000 people that night. I arrived in KIA at 10.45pm and metup with Tiffany and drove to Stutong, intending to at least hear the last speaker and we made it. Though I missed so many nights of talks but it was worth the effort to go there that night to feel the spirit of the people who wants change!

The 10th Sarawak State Election is finally over. With Barisan National (BN) winning 55 out of 71 seats, they are still governing the state. It seemed that there are a turn of votes to the opposition especially in the city areas such as Kuching and Miri where Democratic Action Party (DAP) wins all their contesting seats; Padungan, Pending, Kota Sentosa, Batu Kawah, Piasau and Pujut. DAP won 12 out of 15 seats and it is definitely a CHANGE! Parti Keadilan Rakyat (PKR) wins 3 seats in Ba'Kelalan, Batu Lintang and Krian whereas an Independent candidate won the Pelagus seat.

Though Pakatan Rakyat (PR) did not deny BN 2/3 majority, but it was a GREAT SUCCESS in winning 16 seats in the state election.

No worries! The General Election is coming up soon...another chance to make more changes.

My Diving Set...to be purchased by July 2011

I've been contemplating on whether to buy my own diving equipments. One very good reason to buy my own set is so that I won't be spending additional cost on renting the equipments whenever I dive (which is roughly about another 50% more of my dives). I went through many websites and emails to dive shops around KL area and had a rough estimation on how much the whole set will cost.

As for now, I own a pair of fins and booties, a wetsuit and rashguard, a prescribe mask, a snorkel and a mesh bag. So next in line to get are:

An Easter Movie!

One Easter Movie not to be missed!

After having lunch with Lynn at the Nyonya House and a short meetup with Aileen in the office, I drove myself to Tropicana City Mall and was just in time for the next movie lineup in GSC. Paid RM7 and rushed into the hall and as I sat down, the movie started...so technically, I didn't miss a single frame of the show!

It was a cartoon in a movie show and honestly, it was amazing~! A show not to be missed especially with the family celebrating Easter this coming week.

Though I was rather annoyed by two kids talking and singing behind me while the parents ignored them, I had my fun watching the show with some laughter.

1Malaysia?

After reading lots of articles about the upcoming Sarawak State Election and more utter nonsenses by irresponsible and uneducated politicians, I just can't keep in silence anymore about some of the very sensitive issues that are happening in Malaysia.

This article tells about the failure of 1Malaysia concept by our Prime Minister. Seriously....a big failure! What nonsense is this? Nowadays, it has become an issue between the Malays and the other races in Malaysia.

"They are not the majority of the country," he stressed.

What is that suppose to mean? Just because we are not the majority of the country doesn't mean we are to be oppressed and bullied by the majority...and by the way, if we were to stand up as one (Chinese, Indians, Orang Asli, Dayaks) we are the majority!

"...we (Malays) have been far too giving."

Really? This refers to the usage of Bahasa MELAYU (here I stressed...not Bahasa Malaysia) as the national language of Malaysia. So by all means, any races in Malaysia are allow to use this language freely. If given the option, I think most Malaysians would prefer English as our national language. Why is it a problem now for other races to use the national language in our religion, culture, etc. Is Bahasa Malaysia an Islamic Language instead?

"How many Malays are Christians?"

Er...in Malaysia (as far as I know) if you are a Malay, you automatically becomes a Muslim...no choice! So what utter nonsense is this fellow saying about how many Malays are Christians? NONE! Does not mean that there are no Malays who are Christians, we cannot have Bahasa Malaysia Bible!

I think the more I read the more my anger rises to such idiots who are claiming to be politicians. They are not keeping unity in this country but rather making a mess. Are they trying to re-create May 13 again???

Keep in mind, dear Malaysians (especially the non-Malays)...we pray that one day, our voices will be heard in our country. We pray that we will have our full freedom to practice our own belief. We pray that peace will be restored in our country and we pray that we will live in unity with one another. Let us all pray!

Basic Wall Course

Date: 10th April 2011

Venue: Camp 5, One Utama

Finally, the day to take up the Basic Wall Course came. Met Angie and Sok Peng at Camp 5 just before 10am this morning to start the 4 hours course with Instructor Noel and 2 other students. It was a very thorough start with introductions to the climbing equipments and we moved to practical skills needed for climbs such as tying the knots, 5 steps of belaying, buddy checks and more.

It was about 12pm that we went off for lunch at Esquire Kitchen and later to continue the next session of the course...CLIMBING! There were a couple of terms that we had to use when doing the climbs and Noor (my buddy) and I continued climbing and climbing and climbing, one after another. It was such a good workout!

We were later thought how to climb the boulder and it was fun! We had a de-brief session before being given our certificate.

AWESOME Tioman Holiday!

It was a weekend that I have been longing for... TIOMAN!

After much research on which village I should go to for a weekend stay and a weekend dive, I made my reservations and awaited for the journey to the island. The bus was 11.30pm, departing from Terminal Berserpadu Selatan in Bandar Tasik Selatan. It was a very looooooooong journey from Kuala Lumpur to Mersing and though I was drained tired, I wasn't able to get sleep as the lady sitting behind me was busy talking loudly over the phone for hours!

It was 4.30am in Mersing Bus Station. Lynn and I were contemplating whether we should take the walk to the terminal in the dark but just before we started our walk, the bus driver called us for RM5 to send us to the terminal. We boarded the bus again and we arrived at the terminal in less than 5 minutes instead of a 20 minutes walk! We waited until 6.00am to meet up with the tour agent to pick up our ferry tickets and boarded the ferry at 6.30am to reach Paya Village at 8.45am.

Day 1 was all about diving! Meet up with Fareed, Dive Instructor in Sealantis and decided on the sites that day. Buddied with Jimmy, we went off to Sawadee Wreck for our first dive and later to Renggis for our second dive. It was 12.00pm that we went back to Paya Village for our lunch of Chicken Rice and Diet Coke and not forgetting a bottle of RM6 Hoergaarden. After a good meal, we departed for another dive in Tomok. The evening was later spent on the beach, watching the sunset before a good dinner in the resort.

Day 2 was much more relaxing with 2 snorkeling trips to Renggis and Marine Park in a wooden boat. We had breakfast early that morning and boarded the boat at 9.00am for a morning of sightseeing under the hot sun. I was amazed that we saw a Morey Eel and 2 stingrays swimming underneath us.

We went back to the village for lunch in the resort and decided to spend the afternoon on the beach before a short snorkel out to the rocks in front of the beach. Funny that after such a long swim, we could still stand up on the our feet with the water just barely above our knee.

Our last day on the island was well spent with a boat ride out for dives. So far, this particular boat trip is one that I will never forget. We left Paya Village for a 20 minutes speedboat to Tiger Reef and half way through, a plastic bag caught on the propeller of the boat. The engine overheated and we spent 1/2 hour getting the alarm off and another 1/2 hour drifted away to the dive site. Upon reaching the site, we geared up and made the plunged but the next thing I knew, I was swept away by the strong current. PANICKED! So I aborted the dive *sweats*

I managed to do the 2nd dive after some moments of sea sick due to drinking too much salt water. We reached the village at 2.00pm where I ran all the way back to the room to get a quick shower and rushed back to the dive centre to settle the payment and my dive log and bought one bottle of Hoergaarden and boarded the ferry at 2.30pm.

Upon reaching Mersing, we realized that there weren't any buses down to Kuala Lumpur. The only one left was to Kluang and transit another bus to Kuala Lumpur. So we bought the tickets and got our way down.

Though there were a bit of rush here and there, it was an AWESOME WEEKEND!

The dive sites were amazing! The resort was clean. The food was delicious. The beer was cheap. The people were friendly...and overall it was just AWESOME!

DEFINITELY PLANNING ANOTHER TRIP TO PAYA VILLAGE, TIOMAN SOON!

Diving in Tioman

It was the weekend and a great planned was executed. I went for a 3 days 2 nights trip to Tioman Island especially for diving purposes. After much research, I've decided to stay in Tioman Paya Resort, Paya Village and dive with Sealantis. There were no delays...so upon reaching the island early that morning, it was DIVING TIME!

Dive Site No.1: Sawadee Wreck

It was a 30m deep site with only a ship wreck in it. As we were descending with the descent line, it was like diving into somewhere unknown. But, as we reached the depth, it was beautiful. The fishes swimming around the spooky wreck were just amazing. It was such a healthy site and we circled around the wreck, looking for nudibranches. There were so much to see. Finally, I had a good wreck dive......

Dive Site No.2: Renggis

This site is what they call, Reef-Check Dive. All first time divers in Tioman will be brought to this site to see how beautiful Tioman reefs are. It was a shallow site but the corals were so colourful and alive, not to mention the schools of fishes swimming around us. There was a small 'playground' where we could even swim up and down, through the metal bars.

Dive Site No.3: Tomok

This is was just walking distance away from the village but we took a boat and drop off at the buoy. We did a drift dive as the undersea current was quite strong. Overall, it was such an easy dive with not much of energy needed to swim. There was even a car wreck underneath and we spotted 4-5 species of nudibraches there. It was another wonderful dive that day!

Dive Site No.4: Labas

I was suppose to do 2 dives that morning, but I failed to descend on my first dive as the surface current was so strong that it swept me away the moment I entered the water. It took so much energy to just swim to the buoy but I failed to do so. My Divemaster came to my rescue and we tried to descend another time but FAILED! So, I stayed on the boat and waited for the next dive. I was told that it was a tunnel dive...so excited! So, I plunged into the sea and we started the dive looking at so many big rocks around us. There was a Batfish swimming with us for quite some time. It was a moment later that we started entering the tunnels. In awe, there were so many tiny fishes swimming in the tunnel with us. There was even a stingray swimming with us. It was just AWESOME!

So, I completed 4 out of 5 dives in Tioman this time. I will definitely go back to Tioman one day to do more dives.

It was the last day of Kraf Kraf Kreatif shoot at Get Crafty, One Utama and so far, it was the most exciting and wonderful episodes we shot - the crafts were brilliant, the kids were good and it was just amazing! It's now off for another 4 weeks of editing to mark the end of KKK...hoping for the next season on TV!

Underwater Camera?

An underwater camera cost...

1. DSLR + Casing + Strobes = RM20,000 - RM50,000 (depending on what model and lenses)

2. G12 + Casing + Strobes = RM3000 - RM5000

3. Compact Camera + Casing + Strobes = RM2000 - RM3000

After further contemplation and research, I decided to get myself just a compact camera and its casing for the first round of purchase and a pair of strobes later after confirmation that the camera is good for underwater photography. As for now, I've decided to get a Canon IXUS 130 + Ikelite Casing which costs RM1589.

So far after a tryout, it seemed pretty good but a little hard to use because I'm totally not familiar with Canon compact camera settings but time will help for me to work this camera in a blink.

So, one final question to myself before purchasing this camera...

do I have enough money to buy one?

No Hope for the Malaysian Chinese - A Letter from a Chinese Malaysian Resident in USA

A Malaysian speaks up....

I am a female Chinese Malaysian, living in the Washington DC area in the United States . I have read many of the letters that often talk about foreign countries when the writers have no real knowledge of actually living in those countries.

Many draw conclusions about what those countries are like after hearing from someone else or by reading and hearing about them in the media or after four years in a college town in those countries.

I finished STPM with outstanding results from the prestigious St George's Girls School in Penang . Did I get a university place from the Malaysian government? Nothing.. With near perfect scores, I had nothing, while my Malay friends were getting offers to go overseas. Even those with 2As got into university. I was so depressed. I was my parent's last hope for getting the family out of poverty and at 18, I thought I had failed my parents.

Today, I understand it was the Malaysian Government that had failed me and my family because of its discriminatory policies.

Fortunately, I did not give up and immediately did research at the Malaysian American Commission on Education Exchange (MACEE) to find a university in the US that would accept me and provide all the finances. My family and friends thought I was crazy, being the youngest of nine children of a very poor carpenter. Anything that required a fee was out of our reach. Based on merit and my extracurricular activities of community service in secondary school, I received full tuition scholarship, work study, and grants to cover the four years at a highly competitive US university. Often, I took 21 credits each semester, 15 credits each term while working 20 hours each week and maintaining a 3.5 CGPA. A couple of semesters, I also received division scholarships and worked as a TA (teaching assistant) on top of everything else. For the work study, I worked as a custodian (yes, cleaning toilets), carpet layer, computer lab assistant, grounds keeping, librarian, painter, tour guide, etc. If you understand the US credit system, you will understand this is a heavy load.

Why did I do it? This is because I learnt as a young child from my parents that hard work is an opportunity, to give my best in everything, and to take pride in the work I do. I walked away with a double major and a minor with honours but most of all a great lesson in humility and a great respect for those who are forced to labour in so-called `blue collar' positions.

Those of you who think you know all about Australia , US, or the West, think again. Unless you have really lived in these countries, i.e. paid a mortgage, paid taxes, taken part in elections, you do not understand the level of commitment and hard work it takes to be successful in these countries, not just for immigrants but for people who have lived here for generations.

These people are where they are today because of hard work. (Of course, I am not saying everyone in the US is hardworking... There is always the lazy lot that lives off of someone else's hard work. Fortunately, they are the minority..)

Every single person, anywhere, should have the opportunity to succeed if they want to put in the effort and be accountable for their own actions. In the end, they should be able to reap what they sow.

It is bearable that opportunities are limited depending on how well-off financially one's family is but when higher education opportunities are race-based, like it is in Malaysia, it is downright cruel for those who see education as the only way out of poverty.

If you want to say discrimination is here in the US , yes, of course it is. Can you name a country where it doesn't happen? But let me tell you one thing - if you go looking for it, you will find it. But in Malaysia , you don't have to go look for it because it seeks you out, slaps you in your face every which way you turn, and is sanctioned by law!

Here in the US , my children have the same opportunity to go to school and learn just like their black, white, and immigrant friends. At school, they eat the same food, play the same games, are taught the same classes and when they are 18, they will still have the same opportunities. Would I want to bring my children back to Malaysia? So they can suffer the state-sanctioned discrimination as the non-malays have had for over 50 years?

The injustice the non-Malay have to suffer in frightening silence is the most damaging problem one has to face throughout one's life. You just have to look at the mighty govt structures which completely favours only one race, the Umno Malay. The Chinese and Indians are treated no better than the illegal Indonesians. Racism and corruption are openly practiced by the Malay politicians everywhere, Courts, schools/Uni, police, govt offices, contracts, GLC, NEP, ISA, local government.

It's so powerful and intimidating that you walk with fear and keep your mouth shut on anything and everything political. Religion is taboo unless you talk good about Islam.

As for being a slave in the foreign country, I am a happy 'slave' earning a good income as an IT project manager. I work five days a week; can talk bad about the president when I want to; argue about politics, race and religion openly; gather with more than 50 friends and family when I want (no permit needed) and I don't worry about the police pulling me over because they say I ran the light when I didn't.

Have we seen the light at the end of the tunnel yet (Anwar Ibrahim)? Or is it the head light of an oncoming Umno train? Lets hope its the former for the sake of all fair-minded Malaysians.

The dream of a Malaysian 'race' in the future is nowhere in sight with the present BN govt.

Was searching for dive promotions in the web and came across Project Aware Foundation: Dive for Earth Day 2011. I marked my calendar on the every year's Project Aware International Cleanup Day on the 25th September...a day to be underwater 'MBKS' *smiles* I found out that Langkawi Coral is having the Dive for Earth Day 2011 on the 23rd April 2011 at Pulau Payar, Langkawi and quickly emailed them. Hopefully, I can join the dive team for this event!

Cervarix Shot...2nd Dose

Cervarix is a vaccine against certain types of cancer-causing human papillomavirus (HPV). Cervarix is designed to prevent infection from HPV types 16 and 18, that cause about 70% of cervical cancer cases. These types also cause some other genital cancers and some oropharyngeal cancers. Additionally, some cross-reactive protection against virus strains 45 and 31 were shown in clinical trials. Cervarix also contains AS04, a proprietary adjuvant that has been found to boost the immune system response for a longer period of time. Cervarix is manufactured by GlaxoSmithKline. Just had my 2nd dose of Cervarix yesterday after my first dose on 13th February in Kuching. Taking this shot in KL is a bit more expensive than taking it in Kuching though - RM220 per shot. Both doctors I went told me there won't be much of a pain, but so far the pain has been on-going for couple of days *sweats*

After a long contemplation...I went to Scuba Dynamics, Hartamas yesterday and got myself a rash guard for RM79 *good deal* I've been wanting to dive without my wetsuit but haven't gotten the opportunity yet because I was still scouting for a good rash guard. So now, here I have it and I will use it this coming trip to Tioman. Let's see how it is like to dive without a wetsuit~

Japanese Earthquake Causes Tsunami

Tokyo (CNN) -- The most powerful earthquake to hit Japan in at least 100 years unleashed walls of water Friday that swept across rice fields, engulfing towns, dragging houses onto highways and tossing cars and boats like toys, apparently killing hundreds and forcing the evacuations of tens of thousands. Prime Minister Naoto Kan said the "enormously powerful" earthquake has caused "tremendous damage over a wide area."

The quake, which struck at 2:46 pm local time, sparked fires in at least 80 locations, Japan's Kyodo News Service reported, and prompted the U.S. National Weather Service to issue tsunami warnings for at least 50 countries and territories.

Police in Miyagi Prefecture say between 200-300 have been found in the coastal city of Sendai alone, Japan's Kyodo News Agency reported late Friday. The death toll is likely to rise as there are few casualty counts yet from the worst-hit areas. Kyodo, citing Japan's defense forces, said 60,000 to 70,000 people were being evacuated to shelters in the Sendai area.

Japanese authorities ordered the precautionary evacuation of a nuclear plant affected by the earthquake, saying that while there was no immediate danger, crews were having trouble cooling the reactor. The Fukushima plant is one of four closest to the quake that the U.N. nuclear watchdog agency said were safety shut down.

The epicenter was offshore 373 kilometers (231 miles) away from Tokyo, the United States Geological Survey said.

The prime minister said an emergency task force has been activated, and appealed for calm. The government dispatched 8,000 troops to assist in the recovery effort and asked for U.S. military assistance, according to Kyodo.But residents there continued to feel aftershocks hours after the quake. More than 30 aftershocks followed, with the strongest measuring 7.1.

A spokesman for the U.S. military bases in Japan said all service members were accounted for and there were no reports of damage to installations or ships. President Barack Obama, while offering his condolences, said the United States was standing by to help "in this time of great trial."

Images from Japanese media and CNN iReporters show smoke pouring from buildings and water rushing across fields carrying away entire structures.

"I wasn't scared when it started ... but it just kept going and going," said Michelle Roberts, who lives in central Tokyo. "I won't lie, it was quite scary. But we are all OK. We live on the third floor, so most everything shook and shifted."

The quake toppled cars off bridges and into waters underneath. Waves of debris flowed like lava across farmland, pushing boats, houses and trailers. About 4 million homes had no power in Tokyo and surrounding areas. Firefighters battled a fiery blaze at an oil refinery in Chiba prefecture near Tokyo. The quake disrupted rail service and left people stranded in their offices. It also affected air travel. Hundreds of flights were canceled, Kyodo said. Some 13,000 people were stranded at the Narita airport, with 10,000 stuck at the Haneda airport, Kyodo said.

At Tokyo Station, one of Japan's busiest subway stations, shaken commuters grabbed one another to stay steady as the ground shook. Dazed residents poured into the streets after offices and schools were closed. Children cried. Residents said though earthquakes are common in Japan, Friday's stunned most people.

"My wife was the calm one ... she told us to get down and put your back on something, and leave the windows and doors open in case a building shifts so you don't get trapped.""This was larger than anyone expected and went on longer than anyone expected," said Matt Alt, who lives in Tokyo. Richard Lloyd Parry said he looked through a window and saw buildings shaking from side to side. "Central Tokyo is fine from what we see, people are calm ... and not going inside buildings," he said.

Such a large earthquake at such a shallow depth -- 24.4 kilometers (15.2 miles) -- creates a lot of energy, said Shenza Chen of the U.S. Geological Survey. As the city grappled with the devastation, a massive tsunami swept across the Pacific Ocean. An earthquake of that size can generate a dangerous tsunami to coasts outside the source region, the National Weather Service said.

In Philippines alone, the tsunami is expected to hit in the early morning and the government has evacuated coastal areas. The National Weather Service issued warnings for more than 50 countries and territories. The wide-ranging list includes Russia and Indonesia, Central American countries like Guatemala, El Salvador and Costa Rica and the U.S. state of Hawaii, where warning sirens were sounded in the morning. A tsunami warning was also issued for areas along the United States and Canadian west coasts.

While some officials feared that waves from the tsunami could be high enough to wash over entire islands in the Pacific, at least one expert said it was unlikely. The tsunami could cause significant damage and flooding, but "washing over islands is not going to happen," said Gerard Fryer of the Pacific Tsunami Warning Center.

Humanitarian agencies were working with rescue crews to reach the people affected. "When such an earthquake impacts a developed country like Japan, our concern also turns to countries like the Philippines and Indonesia, which might not have the same resources," said Rachel Wolff, a spokeswoman for World Vision. Wolff said her agency is helping people on the ground in Japan and teaming up to help others in countries along the path of the tsunami.

The tsunami could cause damage "along coastlines of all islands in the state of Hawaii," warned the U.S. National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration. "Urgent action should be taken to protect lives and property."

Tsunamis are a series of long ocean waves that can last five to 15 minutes and cause extensive flooding in coastal areas. A succession of waves can hit -- often the highest not being the first, said CNN meteorologist Ivan Cabrera. The quake was the latest in a series in the region this week.

Early Thursday, an earthquake with a preliminary magnitude of 6.3 struck off the coast of Honshu. A day earlier, a 7.2-magnitude earthquake had struck off the same coast, the country's meteorological agency said.

The largest recorded quake took place in Chile on May 22, 1960, with a magnitude of 9.5, the USGS said. The quake Friday was the fifth-strongest in the world since 1900, the agency said and the most powerful to hit Japan since then.

It has been a very 3 weeks since I got back to KL for my new job. Shoots were from Monday to Friday and edits for promo and episodes started the same week itself. There were many setbacks throughout these three weeks; locations, talents, guest artists, production support, post production support and many unforeseen problems happening day in and day out.

I had so many late nights in Media Prima's editing room for edits and early mornings from Cheras to Damansara for shoots. The last weekend was the most frustrating time in this project but I'm glad that things were sorted out and its going smoothly now.

There were a couple of cancelation of shoots last week and again this week where we postponed our last 2 days of shoot to the week after school holidays.

For now, it's a week off from shoot but every Monday and Tuesday for edits.

Movie of 2011: Hikayat Merong Mahawangsa

It was yet another day of canceling my shoot in One Utama and to spend my time wisely, I went to watch Hikayat Merong Mahawangsa at 12.30pm at GSC, One Utama. I was attracted to watching this movie in the cinema after watching the trailer as I was surprised with the quality of this Malaysia-made film.

Hikayat Merong Mahawangsa - known as The Malay Chronicles: Bloodlines in the international cinemas tells a story of Merong Mahawangsa, allegedly a descendant of Alexander the Great and the foundation of Kedah. The journey sets of when Merong Mahawangsa escorts a Roman Prince from Goa to wed a Chinese princess during the 2nd century and later to face attacks from the Gerudas.

This is one of the very few Malaysia-made films that I've watched in the cinema. First of all, two thumbs up to the production of this film! *applauses* This film shows improvements in Malaysia's filmmaking industry especially with its acting, cinematography, special effects and music scoring. It was a great product at the end of a RM8million spending to make this movie.

I find that it was quite odd to have the characters speaking in English, especially with different slangs. But then again, it was a GREAT film by KRU and hopefully more of these will be made into films soon!

Movie of 2011: The King's Speech

Another shoot cancelled and guess what I did after...had a great morning breakfast of Dim Sum at Happy Garden with Steven and Tracy. Damn, the Dim Sum was amazing - reminded me of Ipoh's Foh San Dim Sum that I had back when I stayed in Ipoh for 2 months. After breakfast, Tracy and I took the train down to Berjaya Times Square to catch a movie and we were 5 minutes away before the next show: The King's Speech at 12.10pm.

Heard about this show from friends who have been posting about it. Another movie based on true story, this time it's about King George VI. It was indeed a good movie; very inspiring and great acting. The freeze inside the cinema was a setback but overall I enjoyed every single minute of this movie *smiles*

Movie of 2011: 127 Hours

It was another cancellation of my shoot that brought me to watch this show in GSC, One Utama on Friday afternoon at 3pm. I saw the trailer in Kuching and had been wondering what the story is all about. Similarly to the TV Program from Discover Channel - I Shouldn't Be Alive - this show covers seriousness and humours. It's amazing how much a person can do to continue living even in such situations. It was an amazing movie to watch. Love the location and the cinematography!

...wonder what I'll do if I'm in a life and death situation...

Kraf Kraf Kreatif Shoot

What am I currently working on at the moment?

I'm now in a 13-days shooting period on Kraf Kraf Kreatif for TV9 with a twist. I am no longer working in production but in the directing department *smiles* Shoots have been on-going since 21st February and will be finishing on 10th March 2011. It's been quite a relaxing shoot but with a little of hiccups along the way. Not just going on shoots but now, I'm splitting myself to 2 shifts; morning on shoot, night on edits.

Can't wait for shoots to be over next week!

Movie of 2011: Sanctum

I've been wanting to watch this movie ever since I came across the movie poster in MBO Kuching. I even wanted to pay RM20 to watch 2D version in Genting Cinema the other day. Finally I get to watch it!

I was at One Utama for Kraf Kraf Kreatif shoot and at 12pm, we had to cancel the shoot for the day with reasons such as:

1. No lightning man

2. 2 sets lights given out of 4 sets

3. Talent went MIA

4. Superbly big screw up from the Production Assistant

After calling off the shoot, I went up and got myself the ticket at the 1.40pm show and no doubt, it was an amazing show, not to mentioned this movie was inspired by a true story. I had a great 120 minutes watching this show and I will definitely be buying the original DVD for it too *smiles* Thumbs up to James Cameron for another great film!

One thing's for sure, I will not want to go cave diving like this one! ...scary...

A Day in Aquaria KLCC

The first time I entered Aquaria KLCC was in December 2006 for Dutchlady 123 shoot with Amy Mastura, but that was for work purposes.

It was time to come back to KL to start my new job. Mum, Dad and Aaron flew here for Chap Goh Mei and since I had some time to hang around, I suggested Aquaria KLCC...and we went! We paid RM35 per person and spent a couple of hours touring and also to watch the feeding at the main tank at 12pm. There weren't that many species of fishes as I would have imagined but it was just wonderful to be surrounded with them.

The journey started with insects and reptiles (eww! especially when I saw the snakes!) and later it was into the Amazon tank where all the fishes were giants...even the catfish was super huge! I was rather scary to imagine what'll happen if someone fell into the Amazon tank with all the big fishes swimming around........

What amazed me was the fishes in the sea. We had to walk into the underwater tunnel where fishes swam around us. This brings me back to the time I first visited Sentosa Underwater World in Singapore back when I was a kid. We went around the tunnel twice!

After the feeding and the tunnel ride, we went on taking photographs and into the 'weird' creature section where we saw nautilus, jelly fish, lionfish, seahorses, etc. I don't even think these creatures are considered weird but....hmm!

And it was time to reach the exit point. Though it didn't take long for us to finish our tour in Aquaria KLCC, at least we did something rather different this time in KL; no more shopping, no more train rides. I had quite some fun...I hope my family did too!

I've decided not to go for the 'Dive with Sharks' in Aquaria KLCC anymore because I'll be diving with the Sand Tiger Sharks and some Rays only. And, one time into Aquaria KLCC is enough. Glad to finally visited the place!

Road Trip to Damai with Mum and Dad

It was my last weekend in Kuching that I persuaded Dad to drive Mum and I to Damai Beach Resort and the best part of all was...I forgot to bring extra clothes to change after a swim! So, I didn't even get myself wet in the sea *sigh* We paid RM3 each to enter Damai Beach Resort that morning and started taking photographs.

We spent an hour or so at the beach area before taking a short break to Kampung Santubong beach. It's been years since we last step foot on this beach. Back when I was little, my parents used to bring us to Damai Lagoon Resort for a weekend stay and once at Damai Beach Resort. But, after price hikes the room became more and more expensive so our other option was Santubong Beach Resort. It's good to see that there are more activities now in Damai Beach Resort.

Off we went to Kampung Santubong and its beach. There isn't anything great at the beach but the feeling of just being by the sea is just wonderful~

Since we were already at that area, Dad drove us to Pantai Pasir Pandak and Pantai Pasir Panjang for a look-see. There were small stalls and families having their picnics there. I remembered the last time I was there was in 1998 where my Primary 6 friends and I were on a school trip after UPSR and we had great times here on this beach.

It was one fun day with Mum and Dad on the road to the beach. Feel like a kid once again. I'm glad that I had time to spend with my family in Kuching after having to work back home.

Can't wait to go back home again!

Days in the Bus

Again I'm back in KL for a new freelancing job, this time with a company founded by my college friend, Nina called TwentySeventh Pictures. This time around, my public transportation route has been shifted quite a bit, starting from the train from Pandan Indah to Masjid Jamek and interchange another train to KL Sentral before getting on RapidKL Bus No83 to Damansara area. In total, 90 minutes of travel time from home to work!

The bus ride kills me very much! But its days in the bus for me from now onwards...

Privatizing Mission Schools in Sarawak

How many mission schools are pushed to the limit to privatize or even worse, to close here in Sarawak. There have been series of mission schools which have already taken the step to close down the schools, that includes my own Primary School - SRB St. Theresa Padungan, Kuching. So many things have changed since I was studying in these schools; declining on study grades and discipline especially. Many knew why, but there is nothing anyone can do.

Today, another news came out:

CATHOLIC CHURCH TO TAKE MISSION SCHOOLS OUT OF NATIONAL SYSTEM

KUCHING: The St Joseph secondary and primary schools, among the oldest here, are going private.

It is learnt that the Roman Catholic Archdiocese had obtained the necessary licences to take back the two mission-turned-government schools.

The archdiocese had revealed its plan during a parish dinner in January.

When contacted, Kuching Archbishop John Ha refused to comment about the move.

“We have a committee working on it but you will have to wait until the ‘launch’,” he said, without going into the details of the ‘launch’.

The Archbishop is expected to formally announce the changes to the schools in late March or early April.

“It (the private schools) will start from next year onwards and the fees have already been worked out,” said a source.

He said both schools would go by the name Sekolah Menengah Swasta St Joseph and Sekolah Rendah Swasta St Joseph respectively.

When contacted, Minister in the Chief Minister’s Department Datin Fatimah Abdullah admitted that she was aware of the archdiocese’s plan but refused to divulge any further information.

The change in the schools’ status has become a cause for concern for parents as many students feared that the school could be closed.

However, a senior staff of the school told Star Sarawak that there was no truth to talk of the schools’ closure.

“They will continue to run as usual for now,” he said.

SMK St Joseph currently has over 1,500 students whereas SK St Joseph has 855 pupils.

Meanwhile, Sarawak Teachers’ Union president William Ghani Bina believes that change in the schools’ status would not have much effect on the teachers and students if the school’s management planned the transition well.

He added that if a government school became a private school, teachers and students would have the option to either remain with the school or be transferred to a government school.

“If the teacher wants to stay on, then he would have to resign from the government. If not, then it would be like any other transfer,” he explained.

As for the students, he said their studies would not be interrupted since all government schools used the same textbooks and teachers were trained on the same syllabus.

“The only thing they might face is familiarising with their new environment and having to make new friends,” he said. SMK St Joseph is considered to be one of the most distinguished schools in the state, having churned out several high profile individuals including Chief Minister Tan Sri Abdul Taib Mahmud, Deputy Chief Minister Tan Sri Dr George Chan and former State Secretary Datuk Amar Abdul Aziz Hussain.

The school which was built in 1882, also has a reputation of producing top scorers one of them include ex-national squash player June Tiong who is currently studying Chemistry at the prestigious Harvard University in the US.

Personally, I support the idea of converting mission schools from national schools to private schools. These mission schools have been around for so many years and it will definitely be a waste to just have them closed. I hope more mission schools will privatize instead of a closure.

Road Trip to Muara Tebas and Kampung Bako

Mum and I (at first) decided to take the Rapid Kuching bus to Bako this morning and it was later last night that Dad reminded us that we can drive there on our own and it will save us a lot of hassle to wait for bus, to sit in the bus for a long time, to chase after the bus when it comes and more. So, we decided to drive there. Aaron came along.

We had breakfast at Kim Joo, Carpenter Street before the drive through the one-and-only-toll in Kuching and headed up to Muara Tebas. Little did we know we were heading there until we saw the roadsign. We took a detour to Ching San Yan (Green Hill) for a visit. There were quite a lot of people as it is still Chinese New Year.

We saw a crab jumping from the table and ran off *laughs* We then drove the old road to Kampung Bako and reached a small jetty, parked the car and came down by the river to take photographs. A little drive further, we reached Bako National Park Terminal where Rapid Kuching and the other shuttles from Kuching will bring the tourists to this terminal to catch a boat to the park.

And yes! We had a great time this morning, driving around the other side of Kuching. There's more places to explore and I'll be back with Mum to explore them soon!

ABSOLUTELY GLAD TO BE HOME!

It's been a month since I did my EFR and Rescue Diver courses with Diverse Borneo and I've been missing the fun and laughter with fellow divers back in Kota Kinabalu. I'm now eager to sign up for my Dive Master training but will have to wait until I have enough money to spend for 2 months away from the city, on an island again!
